Just downloaded the free version. Want to use it in my US History class as a way to show and then discuss the push up the beach. I think the students will get into it and be a great jump-start for discussion. I use a bunch of games to get the students to have a better feeling for the events. Films and documentaries help, with that, but to have them "in" the situation and having to make decisions works great for really getting them to think and understand. Great review!
I would recommend this a lot. Actually I found it almost too easy on the base maps that came with the initial game easy individually. I disagree that its coop solitaire on various levels because well we don't play much of the base game maps (I was a line for life backer on Kickstarter so I have everything) so they require cooperation and sharing resources with each other, and good planning at times. Also there's the German Expansion, one player can play as the Germans which is really fun.
In the coop mode you can use your specialist and leaders to help other players with certain things. Even trade a die. Again not bad at all for me it just felt like a group solo game.
Survive long enough to enter the bunker. If you're playing multiplayer, then if any unit loses their last soldier, you all lose (which makes when you move and where that much more important).
@gimps. All your soldiers die...u lose. Take the bunker or what ever is at the top of the map you win. If you we're looking for a more esoteric answer then I would say its an easy game to set up, dice rolling is straight forward and something you can do when you are all alone and don't want to look at the computer.

I'm not a war fan, but I do think it looks interesting.
I agree that I'm not certain how it would work cooperative as opposed to solo.
This game looks fun guys. I love the theme. I'm going to pick this up and can't wait to play and enjoy it.
