- The Zimbabwean government has received 18 helicopters from the Russian Federation, in a move that has raised eyebrows.
The total consignment of 32 helicopters is expected to be delivered to Harare before the end of 2024 for a total cost of $320 million.
The handover took place at a time when most Western nations are attempting to isolate Russia due to its role in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Its not assistance as such, even according to ED speech - he talks over over USD$200 million for the 20 planes. So, these are purchases that came at highly exorbitant cost - around USD$10 million each. Yet market prices for such items is said to be around USD$3 million each.

Definitely not, in the old days it was Malawi and Zambia who pulled out of the federation as they feared being dominated by Zimbabwe which was the biggest economy among the federated states. If people might want to do it in the future, then maybe they might do it by changing leadership on a rotational basis or having a governing council of these countries. If we were to get into a federation with Mozambique we might benefit a lot as the three of us are landlocked and Mozambique has access to the sea.

The federation was broken up by Northen Rhodesia not because we were afraid of Sothern Rhodesia dominating us, but because we understood that the white people in Southern Rhodesia wanted to loot our copper mines to develop Southern Rhodesia. We were correct in our assessment because Salisbury (now Harare) was built on the 97 million pounds stolen by the white Rhodesians from the revenue of the Northern Rhodesian copper mines in the 10 year period of the federation.

I hate how SABC news misrepresented this, and made it it seem like a donation when Zimbabwe paid $320 million for a total of 32 helicopters.
First of all, there’s no need to thank Russia that wasn’t help. The government of Zimbabwe bought those helicopters for $320 million. Secondly, the government didn’t do a great job because there are no paracetamols and proper medicine and other basic equipment to treat patients in hospitals. We only know the politicians for loving aircrafts as they go to South Africa and other far countries to seek medication. We need chemotherapy machine, beds for patients and proper world class hospitals

The level of corruption in that deal is mouth watering. The 32 helicopters where bought by the zim govt at the cost of US$320 million. That means the govt bought each chopper for $10 million whereas these choppers are sold at $2.5 million each when brand new and to add insult to injury there are indications that Zimbabwe bought second hand choppers.

It's not new Zimbabwe implemented the "look East policy" since 2000 what have we benefited from it except suppression from our leaders? I see South Africa is next, and it's pity! Do we really need helicopters before medication in hospitals, do we really need helicopters before basic education for our kids, do we really need helicopters before roads for public transport, do we really need helicopters before basic necessities? Secondly how much were these helicopters each? Because here it's depicted as if they are for free, they crazely inflated the prices as another way of looting public funds. It breaks my heart to see South Africa falling in the same pit Zim did, we thought Zimbabwe was going to be a case study but dololo. Look East policy does not work! I repeat, look East policy does not work!!! West, America and France to be specific are arrogant and bully yes I agree. But as Africa let's unite be bold and find ways to trade as equals on the global market.
