Prison and school only have a few things in common. Why does everyone compare them? They are two completely different things. One is used to make you able to live without being stupid, and the other is to put away criminals who've done murder and such. As I said, two VERY different locations.

Everytime he said "Grant" I thought if the gym leader from Pokémon X and Y XD
Every time they walk on grass and mud they get more ill. The paving you started then erased was a good start! Build fance along the road so they don't walk on the grass on the way in too.
You're daily income is negative. You get paid every day per student but you also pay staff every day. Fire some staff or get to the end of day 9 the next build phase and hope you have enough new students to put you in the green for income.
You can put mostly anything in any room. There isn't much interesting for the common area but you can put say vending machines in there.
