    I think the greatest blessing of selling our house and downsizing it was we needed to delete 3 rooms. We went from 3 bedrooms, a living room, family room, dining room and two car garage to a two bedroom two bath house with a tiny den open to the great room. Mostly we got rid of furniture, but the furniture did not exist in a vacuum - beds had stuff, drawers had stuff, it was shocking. And we got rid of a ton of gardening stuff since we are part timers we hired a service. And we had sold our Class A which had tons of storage and bought a Brinkley with a lot lot less. So by the time we purged the house and the coach, we had way way less. I’m very happy with my subscription to the minimalist mom who taught me I only need one spatula, one frying pan and stuff like that. I also became a frugally oriented splurger. For example one caraway skillet replaced 3 beat up old metal pans. It’s almost impossible to have too little stuff. The worst is clothes as a part timer you haul stuff in every tip and it never leaves. I had. 5 prs of flip flips and three pairs of uggs. Sheesh!

    Sliding Cargo Trays? My uncle had an 8x4 DIY tray installed in the back of the truck he sold me and it was soooo useful for getting stuff in and out of the bed. My brother installed similar sliding trays in his RV last year. You lose a few vertical inches of space, but the sliding trays (and some fold-out supporting legs) could be such a useful item! BTW, I absolutely LOLed at the 💩emoji going wheeeeee!

    • @OpenRoading

      I've seen some...I really need to see it on an RV in person I think before I spring for it. I also think I would have to re-do my battery bank because They are in the center of the storage compartment and stick out a good bit.

      Use a small container….even a mini paint can (pint or quart metal in your case or a glass baby food jar if you were not moving) is perfect….enough for touchups….keeping it in an unheated “basement “ ensures it will freeze, separate and go bad

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  8 місяців тому +1

      @@timothyp3378 Good stuff! I will say our basement doesn't dip below freezing. When we hit cold temps we blast the heat in here and our "cold air return" is a giant vent that goes straight into the basement (So the living space is connected). I'll have to toss a thermometer down there but I'd be surprised if it's ever colder than maybe the upper 40's down there.

    i think you guys still have too much paint.
    1 quart of your main color(s), and a couple of those little 8oz/1cup tester cans of the other colors should be more than enough to last you years in a small space like that.
    and primer you shouldn't need much of because most of what you paint should be touchups when something gets scraped up
    so max 2x quart cans, and 4x 8oz cans

    The "stuff" we all keep. I have to agree with dumping the paint. You also overlooked two potential storage places. Under the bed there might be storage for some items in the space under the wood on your bed, between the totes. If I needed it I would use it for those rarely but necessary items like wrapping paper. Secured and in a plastic bag. Also you repainted a dresser there was some flat space under the 4 drawers, again rarely used items might be placed there. Maybe paper records or notebooks. Of course in a plastic bag (even the humane mouse trap). Great idea for a permanent box for the purged items!

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  8 місяців тому

      The space under the center of the bed has the slide out motor - so I wanted to keep stuff far away from that. As a general rule...if it's something that I'm gonna have to pull drawers and such out to have to get to....do I really need to haul it? 😁 And yeah....that mouse trap should have totally been in a bag. That's an excellent idea. -J

Please don't - you might think it's pretty but it mostly will just annoy your neighbors. Get a morryde slide out. They are amazing. Goes in the mother-in-law room, or pass thru, slides out either way more than 60 percent. We left a little room on one side for long objects, and it is wonderful. Yes, you may have to downsize some. The ease of use compensates, and my wife can easily search out anything in the see thru containers and labels on top and sides. Your first trip out you will thank me, or morryde.😂

      I'm gonna have to consider them. Maybe I can convince them to sponsor us 😂! I'll have to look at the measurements, my 2 concerns are added weight and will I have to move my battery bank which sticks out a bit in the basement. I'll do my research! -J

      Out of curiosity what are you putting down your sink drain? I had to clean the bathroom sink once due to hair but I'm not sure a plunger would have cleared that. -J

    I have seen storage areas like that with a slide out base. That way, you can see what stuff is in the back by just pulling the slide out.

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  8 місяців тому

      Yeah! I want to look into those. Right now my main considerations for that is cost and weight. I feel like my front end is a little heavy as it is, so I may want to see if I can rearrange some things if I add a storage solution that also ads some weight.
      I also may be over thinking it. -J

    Our bed is the same where there’s no storage and I’ve been wanting to see what’s underneath for years. Def going to check now lol. I’d get rid of the paint lol. We try to declutter each time we move whether a lot or little. I agree with the fancy clothes, I got rid of a ton of my teaching clothes and don’t regret it

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes! I was shocked at how bad the storage was underneath! We just had to make sure the totes were clear of the slide motor which they are. Slide has never had an issue in 4 years.
      So glad people are with me on team “no paint!” 😂

    I don’t think I’d keep more than a small amount of paint, but I can see how it’d be hard to get rid of it without feeling wasteful. I’m with you on the lawn decor. I don’t like it in my permanent home yard, and can’t imagine trying to fit it in an RV living sort of storage situation!
