Great vid. Thanks. A couple of tips. The “thing” with the red cap is the power steering fluid reservoir. It MUST come out. 10mm bolt under it. Use open end wrench (no room to pull alternator otherwise) also unclip the hose above the alternator. Also the white radiator overflow will slide up and out. I did the entire project in 1hour 57 minutes.
Excellent video, really helped. I would recommend using a 1/2 blunt punch at the top to set the new alternator in the groove as it is very hard to get enough power when using a smaller longer punch. Also duck tape to hold the Serpentine belt on place on the pulleys worked well. In the end your walk through was the best I saw.
Thanks! Your video is the only written or video instruction I've found showing the hardest part, working the alternator out and in. I was stuck, and thought I was going to have to get my car towed to a shop, before I found your video. I had to completely remove my coolant tank, and really push over the power steering hose and tank hard. I think my plastic fuse box, and headlight connectors were having to bend out of the way more than yours. But it did work, thank goodness.
I just replaced the alternator on a 2002 MDX, and found it was much easier to lower the alt into the space on its pulley end, and then attach the two electrical connections, before bolting it to the engine. I, also, made an adapter wrench for holding the idler/tensioner pulley out of the way, while putting on a new serpentine belt. I wired the handle of the wrench to secure it in the "loaded" position, while I slipped on the new belt. If the wrench slipped off of the tensioning pulley bolt, and trapped a hand by the strong spring, you would have to call 911 to get help to get free.
Video would be a lot better if camera was pointed at the things pointed to in the beginning and some of the little connections while reassembling. Really glossed right over adjustng the tensioner as well
Fyi for ppl who may benefit from this info Yes 02-06 are first generation which is what this video covers but if your mdx is 07-14 then it's a 2nd generation and this video will not help 2nd generation is alot different and more complex but has a cheaper fix of changing the clutched pulley instead of the entire alternator but a guy has a decent video on the job on UA-cam.
If it helps anyone, i didn't have to remove the coolant or power steering fluid. If you take the belt of it gets easier. You can fish it out and In the same way. I have to rotate it, turn it, flip, then willfully squeeze it pass to get the old one out then i did the same with getting the new one in without a hammer but i was doing a vavle adjustment a.t.s.t. so i did have a lot more space to move it. But i got it out that way with the engine fully assembled so, it might not matter. Hope this helps anyone

Great video. I watched 2 others, for the 2002 MDX and this was the best of the 3.
Thanks bud straight to the point plan and simple good work on the video
Thank you
I was able to swap one in a short amount of time thanks to this video

How the hell would anyone ever get they're hand stuck under the tensioner 🤣
@@86royal420 If you'd ever replaced an alternator on this MDX you would how a hand could be trapped.
Thanks for the tips, have to replace one today. First video I picked and it seems like my research is done, thank you.
Your welcome anytime glad it helped
Thank you, this was a great step by step video.
Thanks Bro - Good stuff. It gives the courage to tackle the job !

My daughter and I are going to give it a shot.
Thanks for the video bro thx for the help 🙏🏻

Thank you! It was a nicely done video.
You did pretty good job now I know How change my acura 2004 alternative thank you!

Will this be the same on a 2002 mdx
Yes

Great! Thanks, for the video, it is very instructive.
Least I got the idea now, how much should it cost for the labor, thanks and stay blessed.
Glad it helped!
@@JaboTheMechanic mechanic told me $200 parts and labor to replace the alternator, sounds ok? MDX 2006
@@Abhiaatahoonjanamat yes thats very cheap
@@JaboTheMechanic thanks
i baught the part and was charged $130
The battery is turning on , In my Acura MDX you think I’ll be the alternator? I take one cable out of the battery when on and it turns off .
did you end up replacing the alternator? and did the battery light turn off?
Do you know which was the positive and which was the negative wire on the alternator ?
There is no negative wire that goes to the alternator. Just only a positive cable
Jabo The Mechanic but there’s two cable’s. One on on the opposite end of the alternator one in the top middle.
Could you please email a picture. Chrisjabo1991@gmail.com

GREAT work! Thanks!

Thanks
Great job.

I have a question
What is it?
Jabo The Mechanic I have the old alternator out and new one in but it won’t go all the way in between the one part where you hit it at
You have to keep hitting till it opens than the alternator will slide in. I know its a tight fit
Jabo The Mechanic do I hit the part of the alternator or the other side behind it
Its a little nut thats on the bracket of the block
O man
I took off the serpentine belt by accident lmao pray for me
Camera angle suck
I will make a better one next time
