I'm about 60 pages into War and Peace, and there's a part early on in the book where Tolstoy finishes a chapter by describing Pierre as a man "looking for an intellectual discussion" as "young people like to give their opinions."
Not only did I relate to Pierre right away, as a young, opinionated idealist myself, but I've found a number of incredibly acute observations on human conversation. How characters say things with hidden narcissistic motivations, how people talk between classes, etc.

I never had the motivation and time to commit to read War and Peace. After this I am going to read it. Tolstoy is my absolute favorite author. Great upload.

am not much of a reader, so it took me 18 months to read War & Peace. It was worth it. A wholesome experience through 4-5 characters. Initially I thought it was gonna be a book old people read, but you'd surprised how all the 5 Point of View characters are young & how deeply you can relate to it as a youngster. Never judge this book by its 'Classic' tag. It is surprisingly Progressive despite being called as a Classic.

I just graduated college, I can't say that I associate with Pierre. I associate with the journey of Andrei Bolkonsky and his struggles of coping with the meaninglessness of life due to his fall and his rebirth

Excellent. You are talking about the war within onself as seen by Tolstoy. This is exactly what the Hindu Mythological Book, 'Bhagavad Gita' talks about. The war within onself and how to win that war. Great

True, the War with oneself and all its drives, like through a Dantesque labyrinth.Only Humility may help here. Here,Arrogance reigns supreme.

Pierre is the true hero of this book. He's like a stubborn mule. He always makes me laugh and his journey is awesome. Andrew and Nicholas are both up their own A holes.

Pierre to me come across as "weak", in the way that he always gives in into his cravings, sometimes on the brink of addictiveness, also he is often plainly superficial, honestly, I can't identify with that. Nicholas is flawed, and inexperienced, sometimes foolish, yet his main ambition is to do right, Andreij is basically a smug gloomster, when the light does occasionally enter him for a moment, it's just the exception that confirms the rule for him.
