Honestly if Rob was still in the band at this point, the album would've still sounded pretty much the same. This album is groove metal, and Rob's new band (Fight) was groove metal. They both wanted to do the same thing.
Only priest took their time chosing what to do without rob. Rob already made groove in 1992 and recorded it in 1991. In a time pantera were more in their thrash metal fase (a.k.a cowboys from hell). Vulgar display of power was really a groove metal anthem album as a whole.
Groove metal isn't a subgenre(in theory), it's just slow thrash, and this has quite about of speed compared to Fight. However, that's Tipton's doing. I still think it'd be the same damn album too even with Halford.
I agree halfway with your comment. A beast of an album for sure but I do feel that it was a great Priest album as well. The riffs still had the classic Priest sound but they were darker and much heavier. Tim screams just like Rob Halford and does justice to the Priest sound. Priest never repeated themselves on their albums so I think that an album like "Jugulator" would have come out with or without Rob in the band. In terms of sheer heaviness, this album crushes anything Priest had done before.
This is underrated because rippers on it and it came out in 90 s, Sabbath have the same problem with their headless cross, because it’s Martin and not Ozzy or Dio .✌️
Why is this not on spotify?.. Just watched bride of chucky and i flashed back to when i owned the soundtrack. Hunted down every song but this one and the Kidney Thieves one.

+david cantu No! Painkiller is the Magnum Opus of metal and these songs are sub par. Honestly this is more thrash and the lyrics are weaker than on any other album. I just don't get the same great classic vibe and creativity out of this...I dont know maybe it's that his vocal harmonies are weak or the fact that they changed their guitar playing from less but powerful and melodic, to more and heavier but less meaningful.
That fucking soundtrack introduced me to so many good bands: Monster Magnet, Screemin Cheetah Wheelies etc. I thought it was a great movie for the record.
This album sounds like a mix of Cowboys from Hell era Pantera, Seasons in the Abyss era Slayer, Painkiller era Judas Priest, and the Layne Staley era of Alice in Chains.
By far and away the best production of any Judas Priest album. The crunch on the guitars is so damn heavy... The lyrics are a bit sloppy in places, throughout the record, but the songs themselves are great

This song is on "Bride Of Chucky," and it is the heaviest song on the soundtrack. However, I think this song should of been in the Mark Wahlberg movie "Shooter." The lyrics are more appropriate for that one.
I wouldn't say its the heaviest song in the soundtrack, i'd say its one of them but not THE heaviest, there were other pretty heavy songs on there like Bled For Days, Son Of X 51, and Human Disease
Haha, Glenn was already 49 or 50 then, and Ken and Ian were in their mid-40s. Scott was in his mid-30s at the time, I believe; he and Ripper were the only two in the band at the time that I think could be actually called "young". I agree with what you said, though.
"It's a long story.

Not arguing with that.
