I loved the changes made in TSCC I liked that Sarah was toned down from T2, not the mom who talked about getting drunk & hitting her kid or made John cry after he resuced her I loved the addition of Cameron, she was more complex intellectually & mentally I liked adding in Derek. It told more of Kyle's story, Kyle was human & had a family so siblings made sense. I liked adding on the family unit of the storyline. I like it when the family aspects get addressed & not just the action
She wasn't speaking for herself as an example when she mentioned the Drunk and hit him part. She was watching John interact with the T-800 and had a revelation that he was the perfect father figure for John. That unlike every man she's been with (Not counting Reese of course.) in an attempt to teach him or be a father to him, this machine measured up. He would never abuse him him. ("It would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him.") He would never neglect him. ("It would never leave him....Or say it was too busy to spend time with him.") And most importantly he would never stop protecting him. ("It would never leave him....It would always be there. And it would die to protect him.") She was speaking about all the negative things regarding fathers that she feared would happen to John. This wasn't crazy commando Sarah talking, this was Concerned Parent Sarah talkng.
@DorianMichaelsIII Hehe, I'm glad somebody else finally said that because I felt the same way. I always hated the changes they made to Terminator with this series, but adding a brother to Kyle Reese was just silly and he wasn't even that good of a character. I prefered it when it was strictly John, Sarah and Cameron.
I think just about everyone missed something extremely important. The guy John killed straddled Sarah, and we see her scream. Sarah was raped. That's why Derek asked in this scene if John saw the whole thing, and, when Sarah says, "yes," Derek says "damn," and Charlie winces. That's why John killed the guy rather than just knocking him out. John had been tied up, unable to move and helpless and had just witnessed his mother being raped; when he got loose, he went into a killing rage. That's why he is kind of in shock here. It's why he doesn't want to talk about it. It's why Sarah tells him she's proud of him. In the final scene of this episode when John is in the bathroom cutting off his hair, Sarah tells him that these things happen but they are still alive, and that's what matters. She is telling him that she survived the rape, that that's what matters. He cuts his hair off because he literally stops being a kid in this episode. His innocence is completely gone. You can't ever unsee something like that. I don't know why this went over everyone's head. To me, it was extremely clear what happened.
Actually I do kind of think she is a "her." I'm not saying what you probably think I'm saying. I just think that there are certain terminators designed to take on male personas and certain terminators designed to take on male personas. In Allison From Palmdale, we heard Cameron's cyborg voice and it sounded female.

Now, imagine this series if Arnold survived T2.
