    Your dad was right about the "black man" line, he was addressing Adonis, basically talking how even if he light skinned he is more "black man" than Drake if he does not adopt his father’s ways about the culture.

      Yeah, and he means literal pushups and discipline etc. In the next bar, he mentions ozempic, a diabetes medication that many celebrities have been using as a weight loss hack.

    That “you a black man” line is to reestablish to Adonis that though he is multiracial he is still black and can identify as black because he has black lineage and to do so proudly without cosplaying different black identities like Drake does. Drake being a “white boy” isn’t about him being biracial, it’s about his inability to truly know himself as a man of color and where he fits in with black culture.

      @@PLUTOXGOAThe was raised by his white mother in the suburbs of Canada. Culturally he was raised to be a Jewish man. So he’s basically cosplaying as a black man who grew up in the hood. The way he talks, how often his accent changes depending on who he’s around, how he dresses, the way he acts, is all basically an act. He became a rapper when he was a grown man so his identity was already established (his Canadian identity). And then he becomes a rapper and then becomes a completely different person. Someone like Eminem would be considered more ‘black’ than Drake in this context because of Eminem’s upbringing and the environment he grew up in. So no one looks at him as an imposter. But with Drake, it’s like - when and how did he become who he is? It’s an act for profit. And he wants to fit in so badly because he can’t accept who he is. If he was himself and wasn’t constantly assuming other people’s identities, hip hop community would embrace him more. So it’s not really about race.

      @@sampam3334I think even if he was raised to be a jewish person, his skin color still effected his life. Like i can't imagine that he never experienced discrimination/racism im his life growing up in the 90s. But I get that he didn't grow up being involved in the culture.

    As a black dude with a white mom, I immediately picked up that he wasn't going at Drake because of things he can't control (he wouldn't have said that about J Cole), but because of his _relationship TO_ blackness. I'm glad he clarified that explicitly with this song so everybody could understand.

    • @whatreallymatters571
      @whatreallymatters571 26 днів тому

      Dude if that's you in the picture, you aren't a BLACK dude, you have a with mother, making you biracial, you also look white, meaning you go through life being treated as a white man. Y'all love denying biology. Kendrick knows y'all love tying yourselves to black culture to gain clout and acceptance and says that as long as Adonis doesn't go Drake's route, he's fine with it. He's also just shitting on Drake for his anti black actions while claiming to be black. Cole is also a biracial man who was raised by his white mother but because of white supremacy, gets treated like a black man and the community has a large problem with letting lighter skinned biracials stand in their biracial truths if they look more black.

    So in general the 5% Nation believes that 85% of humans lack knowledge of self, 10% of people have it but misuse it for wicked aims, and 5% (the poor righteous teachers) possess true knowledge of self that they deploy as the Creator intends. This particular aspect of their philosophy has become somewhat pervasive throughout hiphop culture regardless of religious affiliation or background. It's sort of like a modern version of the Pareto Principle, reflecting the intensified concentration of pretty much everything into small percentages of the population.

    Dot is not a 5%er. Also, pops was correct. He was telling Adonis that he is a Black man. This is not just a "rap battle," this is a fight for Black culture. Africans are Black, but we don't share the same culture. However, they'd be more accepted in most cases because we can mutually exchange culture, and there's a reconnection there. Drake is appropriating, colonizing and cosplaying. He was raised by someone that can use ties to get him where he is. Other's think we're all the same, but we're not. My kids are mixed, but raised solely by me...they're cultually Black as well.

      Yeah, you're right. The truth might have mattered more if the battle were close. Unfortunately for Drake, even if Kendrick lied, the song is still really good and will stand the test of time. 20 years from now, anyone listening to it for the first time will have the same reaction dad and kai had at the end.
