  • Just a quick overview of my install. Didn't want to show many details of which you can already find elsewhere on UA-cam. This method of installation can be done on 2003 and older T1N Sprinters. Do not try on 2004 and up it will not work.

    I have a 2003 3500 and have been looking for information on this year. Your video is invaluable, thanks much. I looked at my setup and it is identical to yours fuel system wise and now I know how to proceed. I'm looking at a newer Chinese model that does hot air and water in the same unit.

    Update Nov 2023. I started the heater but wouldn't blow hot air and cut off after 5 minutes. The rubber tubing from the filter to the pump was clogged. Replaced it and now works great.

    Why is this method of install not possible on a 04+ Sprinter? Is there something behind the step panel on the newer ones that doesn't allow you to run your intake and exhaust pipes through there?

    • @stag7882004
      @stag7882004  4 роки тому

      It's because the 2003 has a mechanical fuel pump for the intake and is low pressure. The 2004 model uses a high pressure electric pump located inside the fuel tank so you do not want to feed it from the fuel line as it will disrupt flow to the intake.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. Question: Do you see any air bubbles in the clear fuel lines going from the fuel filter to the mechanical fuel pump (while the engine is running)? I also have a 2003 Sprinter and I'm wondering if this setup lets any air into the lines.

    • @stag7882004
      @stag7882004  4 роки тому

      No air in the lines.The European hose clamps keep the system air tight

  • @nicholasmartin7922
    @nicholasmartin7922 3 роки тому

    2 questions. First, have you noticed any problems with your fuel at this point? Specifically fuel running to the engine itself. I have the same van (2002 140), but I am nervous to tap the fuel line before the pump. This seems far easier than tapping the fuel tank itself. Second, this must mean you can only run the accessory heater with the engine off, correct? otherwise the engine would draw through the heater pump and ruin the pump?

      It heats perfectly with both the motor running and with it off. And it is almost 2 years later and it still functions perfectly.

    Hello, I'm installing the same heater on a 2004. Why did you say this install won't work. Is it the fuel pump location? That t- connection looks a lot easier than all the installs I've seen involving dropping the tank.

      I got it on Amazon. Ebay might even be cheaper. There are tons of diesel heaters on there for under $200. They are all pretty much the same "Made in China" style diesel heaters. If and when it goes bad, you can just buy a new one. Mine original is still working great. The hotter you run them, the longer it will last. I only run mine at full blast and control the temp in my cabin with my Maxxair fan and a crack in the window.

      @@BrentDaughertyMeThe hotter it runs, the less soot that accumulates inside the heater. Too much soot deposit will eventually make the heater fail.

    • @stag7882004
      @stag7882004  7 місяців тому +1

      Thank you!. I don't think it will work because the 2006 had a high pressure electrical fuel pump. The 2003 and earlier have the low pressure mechanical fuel pump. But if you can get it to work please let me know.

    How well is the heater working? I saw somewhere the heater works best with the Base plate on the floor rather than a wall. It would be better for my van if I can fix to a wall.

    • @stag7882004
      @stag7882004  5 років тому

      The heater is working absolutely perfect. Been using it for over a month now. Went on a ski trip last weekend and had the heater on all night long for 3 nights. I didn't have to use the baseplate in mine because I was able to mount on a flat metal surface. If you do fit it to the wall make sure the wiring comes out of the top of it. If it comes out the bottom it will be upside down and diesel will slowly leak into the heater housing creating a strong diesel odor in your van.

  • @nicholasmartin7922

    I did this exact install. But the issue I’m having is that the heaters fuel pump is pulling a ton of air from the vans fuel line. So much so that it collects in the heaters fuel filter and then the air bolus turns off the heater with error code because no more fuel. This happens no matter how much fuel I have in my vans tank. Any suggestions?

    • @stag7882004
      @stag7882004  3 роки тому

      Seems there could be a loose connection. Check all hose clamps. The system has to be air tight.

    • @nicholasmartin7922
      @nicholasmartin7922 3 роки тому

      CatamaVan the clamps are very tight. Is there any way that vans fuel line would not hold prime? And the line itself could be draining fuel so that my heater is sucking in air? Bad pump seal or something?

      I turn it on it will pull half air half diesel. Leading me to think it’s Not a leak but Air in the line itself.
