  • This video continues with the idea of finding the angle of a complex number by looking at an example problem from the Khan Academy exercise linked below and using the formula to solve it. The angle is measured from the positive real axis with counterclockwise indicating positive angles and clockwise rotations as negative angles.
    The general strategy is to draw a right triangle and use trigonometry to determine the size of the angle. If the angle is in either the 2nd or 3rd quadrants, the formula will not give the exact angle. 180 degrees or pi radians will need to be either subtracted (3rd quadrant) or added (2nd quadrant) to the angle from the formula to find the correct value.
