I agree. If not for Raimi's choice to film in New Zealand, Peter Jackson would have one hellova time getting his career off the ground. Xena or Hercules broke down the door for a (at the time) unused part of the world for celuloid. Thank God it wasn't filmed in *Vancouver*. 🤢
Beastmaster is such a hidden gem of a series. I grew ups watching it and even now while it has its warts; the chemistry between Darr and Tao are spot on. Also I love the fight sequences and seeing Darr so athletic. It’s a cool series if you love cheesy but heartfelt sword and sorcery.
What a great wave of fantasy the 90's gave us ... Watched almost every show on that list, even Prince Valiant. My fave though is still Highlander. Still think it's basically as good as the first movie.
Hercules & Xena were my faves. I have every season of both on dvd. Ok..both the first Highlander movie and the series were great too. Now He-Man was my kids' era.
I'll admit that I was a junkie when it came to medieval films and shows. I have seen them all and I have loved them all. Such a shame we cannot continue making shows and films like them.
To sit and watch those shows any time you can and take you back to simpler times and wonderful adventures is amazing. I´d say, that in a "weird way" there´s a spiritual succesor to those series. ONCE UPON A TIME. The first Season is more like a soap opera but by Season 2 they embrace fully the fantasy elements. I felt the similar way with ONCE watching it that I did with those series.
I was older when these all came out and I think I've watched all but two of them from beginning to end. Until 1984, I didn't even have the excuse of kids, I just really enjoyed all of these shows, animated and live action. Might have mentioned that Hercules started with five hour and a half movies and then moved to a weekly series.
I would almost give a nod here to Gargoyles - as it started in Sword and Sorcery time and had a season or two that dealt with magic and avalon. Also as mentioned many times - the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon as well.
Highlander series was REALLY fkin entertaining and well made. I was raised on He-man but myself and my father (30 yrs my senior) even liked Thundarr the Barbarian. Haha I miss you Dad. 😆🥰
You missed the short-lived 1997 gem Roar starring Heath Ledger. A sowrd and sorcery adventure set in Ireland. And the great Pirates of Dark Water from 1991-1992, a sword and sorcery adventure set on the high seas of the planet Mer, with many great voice actors including Tim Curry and Hector Elizondo.
The only episode I partially remember of Hercules, is where he's travelling, with his companion, and during a fight the companion says "I'm trying to find your eternal flower. It's a weed" before poking the attacker in the eyes
He-man, She-ra (original one not the remake one), Thundarr, Wizards and Warriors, and Beastmaster were my favorites. I always been a sword and sorcery fan here.
With a highlander reboot as well as a deathstalker reboot along with conan the barbarian revival i would say that sword and Sorcery Movies and TV Series are making a big comeback just like in the 1980s 💪
I enjoyed He-Man and She-Ra as a kid. When I got older, I enjoyed Hercules, Xena, Beastmaster (I loved that Marc Singer popped in. I can't remember how many episodes.)
Still cannot get past He-man and She-Ra Growing up in 80's they were the sword and Sorcery for most that grew up in 80's, Herclues and Xena were also cult classic for the 90's for those teens who grew up then. Those are 4 of my choices for the Sword & Sorcery of 80 & 90's.
Ahh, good old days of television! Loved growing up with He-Man, She-Ra, Hercules Xena, Beastmaster, and all these comic book adventures! Ahh, the good old days! Miss Highlander the series!
The animated version of Conan wasn't necessarily based on the Live-action movies. It was mostly based on Robert E. Howard's original concept of the book.
Don't recall Wizards and Warriors, a Beastmaster TV series, or the Sinbad 96-98 series. Most of the rest are cherished memories. I do agree that the D&D cartoon should probably have been in this list.
Shera, Hercules, Zena and Highlander were my favorites!! These shows had it all. I had all the Shera dolls and toys. Great TV that no longer exists sadly
everyone either wanted to be Adam or with him. i am currently reading a book called the wizards and the worriers (book 1 of 9 in the chronicles of an age of darkness) by Hugh Cook and yes i own all 9 written in 81. loved the Xena series Lucy is inspiring, she is brilliant in Ash V the evil dead having meet Bruce Campbell as the king of thieves while playing Xena. i prefer the Arnold films . She-rah was better than he-man, as a little girl, i felt empowered watching it.
1. Highlander. 2. He-man and the masters of the universe. 3. Wizards and warriors. 4. Thundurr the barbarian. 5. Zena: warrior princess. 6. Conan the adventurer. 7. Hercules the legendary journey. 8. Beastmaster. 9. Conan the adventurer, cartoon 10. The adventures od sinbad. 11. She-ra the Princess of power. 12. The legend of Prince Valiant.
TBH I have never seen Masters of the Universe from 80s but I must admitt that I enjoyed the NF Masters of the Universe, Revelation and Revolution, especially with Mark Hamill voicing Skeletor
King Arthur ? And the knights of the round table ? The one where they(a college football team) came back from the future and needed to help Merlin ? Where the horses transformed too in having battle suits ? And carriages ?
I remember liking the Prince Valiant cartoon as a kid, but I don't remember a lot about it. And it's a little later than the given time period, but I liked Legend of the Seeker and ended up reading the Sword of Truth books due to liking it.
Highlander films (1 & 2) were often why people watched the series… the first one especially as it was new and really about life/death and if eternity was worth living it (immortality by definition means you can’t die so I never understood why naming same like that).
LODOSS WAR is my favorite anime. Particulary the TV series since it tells the entire story. In case you didn´t know, I´m sure you do, there are other stories set in that universe. @@justicierodelaliga I knew Crystania, but I never knew that Rune Soldier is part of Loddoss. But judging on the first episode, this is not my cup of tea.
There was also The New Adventures of Robin Hood. Four seasons, but I believe the two leads were changed after season two. There's probably a story there.
There's also Robin of Sherwood (AKA Robin the Hooded Man). It was a UK series which ran during the mid-80s. There are 26 episodes over 3 seasons. Well worth watching.
I was a fan of Highlander back then. When I tried to watch a couple of episodes many years ago, I was so shocked and disappointed... Queen's soundtrack is the only masterpiece there.
Great job on the list. You managed to include all my favorites, and that wasn't something I actually expected. One "Honorable Mention" I suggest is The Mystic Knights of Tir-Na-Nog (1998-1999). It was meant to sell toys to kids, but it was fun!
It just gets to show how standards have lowered. Even then, those shows were considered as pulp, knock offs. But compared to today's crap, they're next level.
Damn, these brought back a lot of memories. Wish they still made shows like this again. We have enough serious shows like Game of Thrones, but not any funny campy shows like these.
Highlander and Xena were my favorites out of what you've got on here. But, no Pirates of Dark Water cartoon? That was so good! No Dungeons and Dragons?

I just hope Hollywood doesn’t screw it up, but they have a lot of really good factors looking for them so hopefully, they won’t screw it up. Please don’t screw it up Hollywood.
Didn't get to see or I've seen a few episodes of of them. Never saw wizards and warriors. beast master, thunderr the barbarian, sinbad, Prince valiant .But seen most of the them. Got a toy figurine of the cartoon Conan, ,he man, she ra, two life like figs of xena. Should of put in the 1980s, Dungeon and Dragons. Good 😂stuff. 👍
There were not enough episodes of Conan live-action. It would have been better if the timeslot was steady. Same with the Beast Master. there also weren't enough of Sinbad. I loved the Legend of Prince Valant but it was had to caught because it was Cananan and I am in OK
Now a days we got shows about cops who don't believe in the supernatural and others about teen pregnancy or shows about period drama I don't have time for that when you got shows like Xena and Hercules
This video is comprised of pretty much all my favorite shows as a kid. I have to say though, despite wanting Hollywood to remake Highlander for a very long time I am terrified of what "woke" Hollywood is going to do.
Shoutout to She-Ra. While as toys I really loved the He-Man action figures as a little boy, and I watched both shows, the She-Ra show was simply better.
Born in 81, so I was a bit young for a couple of these. Only sort of remember He-man. Hercules was my fav. Can I be annoyed The Sentinel didn't make the list? No Buffy either. Or are they not really classed as sword and sorcery? What about the original Monkey?
I mean, who doesn't know about Xena or Hercules or He-man? I mean, I was not really into He-man, I was more of the ThunderCats girly-gargoyles and the Smurfs❤
I just checked and while SINBAD isn´t available on DVD at least the whole series is available here in UA-cam in the USA TV channel. ...so sad, I checked and the series was doing well. It would have had a third and final Season but for a contract dispute.
The Dungeons and Dragons cartoon from the 80s was sitting RIGHT THERE! How could you possibly miss it???
Agreed!
I have fond memories of Hercules and Xena. Filed in New Zealand they were a great help to our local film industry.

Roar and Gargoyles… at least, the flashback and Shakespeare-inspired story arcs in the case of the latter.

These shows from the 80s and 90s are good, but they are NOT better than Game of Thrones / House of the Dragon.
I was going to mention Legend of the Seeker, but that didn't come out until 2008, so it doesn't qualify for your list.
I loved that show ....I was sweet on that warrior chick❤
@niobium79 The Brunette who could control people or the Blonde who basically used the Cattle Prod? Both were pretty hot, and in different ways.
@@BladeStar-uq6xe would both be an option?
@PotatoePC Definitely. I've had that fantasy too.
Unfortunately I'd read the books first... couldn't get past the ... reinterpretation...of the storyline.
The Adventures of Sinbad was actually a Canadian television series.
18:41 Maeve was 110% of why I watched this show.
I haven't even watched this video yet, and I 110% know who you're talking about 🤣
@@brianwalker8465 ..a fellow man of refined tastes, i see. *tips hat*
Wizards And Warriors actually did get a DVD release.
There were not enough episodes of Conan live-action. It would have been better if the timeslot was steady. Same with the Beast Master. there also weren't enough of Sinbad. I loved the Legend of Prince Valant but it was had to caught because it was Cananan and I am in OK
What about Pirates of Dark Water? That was a great show
Wizard and warriors was under appreciated
The Pirates of Darkwater was also very good, to bad it didn't have an ending.
I TOTALLY don't understand why Robin of Sherwood isn't on the list!?! 👀
Pirates of Dark Water!
Conan and Sinbad also Team Knight Rider.
Mortal Combat movie and TV series.
i,v seen every one but Sinbad never got to watch the tv show of it
Then go ahead and watch it. You´ll love it.
It’s a fun watch.
The New Adventures of Robin Hood?
Heman was only on for 2 seasons?!? I feel like it was an important part of my upbringing. LOL
What about Dungeons and Dragons ? And Record of Lodoss War ?
recognize all these shows...but...never watched prince valiant???
Personally I could just. Call this video "now I know why I like men."
