  • A visit to Vitré in Brittany, France. Vitré is a medieval walled town with many historic monuments. Large sections of the 13th-century ramparts remain, especially on the north side of the town. There is also a medieval faubourg (suburb) on the north side of town. Vitré was heavily fortified during the Middle Ages, as it was situated on the border between the Duchy of Britanny and the Kingdom of France. The castle on the western side of the town is the town's stronghold.
