Imo, Vaclav is the smartest guy in this room and the only one who's not blowing sunshine up our asses.

The fact he basically gives the middle finger to most institutional thinking and still gets invited to these things speaks volumes about how smart he is

@@xxczerxx Yes. At the same time he seems to me to be very objective and open-minded, which is what you need when tackling the big problems facing humanity or life on earth for that matter. Intellectual honesty is the phrase I'm looking for.

Smil: I am not an expert on decarbonization.
Also Smil: Here is basic math on why these guys have no idea what they are talking about either.

The only person on the panel that actually understands the underlying numbers is the old man. All the others are just trying to look smart. We are all fucked.

Someone needs to ask the question - What exactly is the problem ? We've had a fantastic growing season for the past 20 years, a descent and upscale lifestyle, emerging economies are doing better, people are living longer so what IS THE PROBLEM ?

After 37 min he talks about taxing carbon and that it works. So much even that now we here in the Netherlands are subsidizing building windmills that will produce hardly anything..

There are now 8 billion people living on the earth. That should not be doubled in 50 years. That should be 4 billion people in 50 years. Reason: Fewer people need less steel, amonia, plastics and cement, which cannot be made by electricity. We need amonia to increase the yield of the soil, for food. If there are fewer people, we also need less fossil fuel. The reduction to go from coal to gas combustion is already 40 percent less carbon dioxide, so less people on this earth, from 8 to 4 billion people from 2023 to 2073, that really is the solution. the quality of life also increases.

I believe what Pro. Smil says is realistic and best for 3rd world nations. The 1st world should abide by the legal agreements put, let the 3rd world be morally held accountable.

All politis. Too many dead beats. Too many people with special interests. Politicians lie. We need honesty.

If more small farms were producing vegetables and fruit, more jobs or shared farms, more natural fertilizer could be used, the emmissions grom transport will also decrease. It would be a lot easier to reduce emissions if we return to what is natural to Earth. The natural proportion of human activities to ecosystem. More Rewilding is important. Urbanization is not good for the ecosystem.

As long as all the attention remain's on War profits, everyone trying to become millionaires, owning ridiculous luxeries and living ridiculously artificial lives, with no interest in living a simple life, finding joy in living in harmony with Nature, which can be very enjoyable, the world will become unlivable. Greed will bring about the end of humanity.
