This is a great video, clear walk through from start to finish. Definitely subscribing
This was a huge help, I feel a lot more confident about getting Mycroft up and running now. Thanks!
You’ve done the best job on explaining this that I’ve seen. Great video!
Great tutorial! Very concise and clear, thx Caroline!!
Hope this works because Alexa never worked for me and Amazon has gotten on my nerves in many ways... Can't wait to try it! Love your videos!
Excellent job Caroline nice work
Well done. Nailed it. I didn't have to wait to see what MyCroft is and whether it is for my project - beginning with a demo. I can take it from there on this end. Many thanks!
Ikr, so many other tutorials didn’t show it working until after the tutorial and they would say the name and it would take 5-10 seconds to respond, this one I know is fast because of the demo
This inspired me. Thank you Caroline.
definitely on my list to try!
concise and thorough thank you
If you don't know the IP of your Pi and you don't have any proper HDMI monitor, there are more ways. You can simply go to your router's panel and check the ips, or just perform a scan with nmap. And this was a great video. I considered using mycroft for a project of mine :D
Great Video 🎉❤
Very nice, thank you!
Another amazing tutorial video! How different is the installation using a standard Windows pc instead of a Mac that is used in your video? Thank you so much.
Amazing
Great video! I'd love it if they provided a ready to go VM image file that I could use to run the backend services at home so that I didn't depend on their availability, permanent internet access and also due to privacy reasons.
Wow, good job... Like to see further that able to control lighting or anything on off dimming etc etc... via voice control.
Great question! I will discuss today at 3 pm EST on #CarolineLive ua-cam.com/video/iTfEy9yJMok/v-deo.html
Mycroft has a direct interface with home assistant
This was really helpful, thank you! I'm new to all this and I appreciate that you didn't assume we knew all the terms 😋
Can we use PiCroft for power on leds or servos though Jarvis command?
TY.
When flashing your OS with raspberry pi imager do Ctrl + Shift + X to setup your wifi and ssh stuff.
Can combine Magic mirror and Mycroft?!
Can i connect this ai to my small 7 inch raspberrypie screen
You're the best! I'm trying to figure how to implement this into my ai robot project, and to avoid being spied on every time I want to use my creation. So far I have:
Raspberry Pi 4B, w/t case, usb card reader adapter, wireless usb adapter, SanDisk sdxc 256gb,
Coral usb accelerator google edge tpu
64MP Hawk-eye Autofocus Camera Module for Raspberry Pi
Raspberry Pi debug probe
37 Sensor Kit V2.0
Start Kit (Breadboard n bits)
I want to get a 380 degree LIDAR module to complete the first phase of the project.
Also have Pi Zero 2, and 2 Pi Pico's (one W)
I realise one thing at least; this shiz is gonna cost, and already, I spent over £500. I don't really know what I'm doing. It's like an impulse. A mini obsession to create an ai assistant. The pi (specs) have limitations, and I do wonder how I can achieve the best results possible. First step, speech recognition. 3gb is quite a lot. Could mean it's standalone, which is what I desire. Sorry for the essay, but someone might find it of interest, and now I have some written info on my gear.
I am having a problem with Audio 3.5mm jack is there a fix for it?
It is unfortunate that you didn’t talk about the wait times. Because it’s not backed by billionaires the tech is a little behind. Your edits make for a better video, but it’s unfair to people new to Mycroft. I hope someday the software will be just a snappy to respond as the other big names. Great walkthrough for the install!
Wait... you can't do a custom wake word anymore??
3:00 Where can I find this file, or do I have to make it myself
Hello ,i burn the picroft image to sd card , but after connecting it to rasberry, as well connecting the rasberry to monitor nothing is showing up and monitor is showing no input available.
Please help me with that
if we control servo with mycroft ai
It can possible??
i cannot find supplicant file in my mac desktop
any creap alternative to the mic ?
Great vid! I'm wondering if this would work on my Pi Zero W? I guess there is one way to find out...
no it won't work on pi0
If my ethernet port/router is in my living room, can I still set this up in my bedroom over wifi? Does it have a Phillips hue skill?
Raspberry Pi 4 does have wifi, so it should work.
what is the song at 5:53? I have been searching it everywhere!
What happeneds if the file is to big to download how do I get it to download
How can i put it in spanish?
Thanks
Great video. On the privacy/security side, does picroft need to be connected to the mycroft site to operate?
Good question, I had the same. I didn't find info on the home page so I guess the intelligent part is not local but cloud based. If you're interessted and you don't already know it try out Almond.
almond.stanford.edu/
edit: After reading the wikipedia page both (local or cloudbased) is possible. So I'm not sure which was used in this video.
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycroft_(Sprachassistent)#Speech_to_text_(STT)
You can do it 100% local, however it is very limited in feature set. Like getting weather without contacting an outside server isnt possable. If you are a skilled developer I guess you could rewrite all the services you need
@@josuaschmid501 being private and not sharing any data has been their main driving point from the start.
@@FinalWarsGodjira right but still, if the company goes down then your device stops working. And it still requires an internet connection. I'd love to be able to speak to my motorcycle, for instance.
@@leandrotami does it? Dont think an internet connection is needed if you use the default voices in the software. Maybe for the first set up but after that is it doing a call home or reach to the internet with every command? Any firewall traffic logs showing it?
Does this support other languages as well?
at 3:08 you dont have to configure the file. if you just hit ctrl + shift + x in the rpi imager itll let you configure your wifi and other settings like locale and ssh
oh SNAP! That was so much easier. Thanks for the great advice
@@LightwalkerN7 yeah i was so happy when i found that out
Do I do it before or after
😘
Buenas tardes.
Muy buen trabajo.
¿Haces vídeos o tutoriales en español?
Gracias.
I can't get test sound... While testing .... It is not showing any error how can I solve it? My speakers are working ... I tried changing speaker still can't get output what should I do...???😭
Good one
Is there a way to Change the call Name of the ai from jarvis to Something custom like hey Daddy or Something 😂
Can I change that name??
I'm running Ras Pi 3B+ and it runs slow. About 5-10 seconds to answer a question. Thoughts on how to speed it up?
Hello ,i burn the picroft image to sd card , but after connecting it to rasberry, as well connecting the rasberry to monitor nothing is showing up and monitor is showing no input available.
Please help me with that
very nice thank you. can you make jarvis activate GPIO in the raspberry ?
You can make any skill (a python add on system that allows for voice activated systems) you want. The original mark one hard hard actually has a led face that is driven by the arduino I believe controlled over gpio.
Hello I am unable to find the wpa_supplicant
Hi Can you use it for IFTT commands ?
Or for home automation. :D
yes
I know I saw a IFTTT skill, and there has been a lot community work between home assistant (great home automation software also open source) and Mycroft!
can we sideload any other voices/ voice models
Yes! MyCroft it’s open source and I’m pretty sure there is a plug-in or skill that can let you choose your own TTS service
I have a Pi2 was going to do a whole design a few years back for a car audio And video display With the actual Jarvis voice But i think back then the only Download was for Windows apps ..Just think with bluetooth And other installs You can drive..Have you're Gas light come on Have Javris read it And reply your location to the nearest gas station Or have it set for the cheapest gas in your area This would also work for a Engine light And be able to read which sensor is showing to know where your engine problem area is (Bluetooth OBDII reader) ..Sir I found a Mechainc Shop 1.1kms away etc ..Aside from playing a song requested ..Along with inside outside temps And many things ..
Hi Caroline ... excellent video as always. Regarding the latency of your Picroft, its responses were very fast - what Pi 4 were you using, as I used Picroft on a 4gb version & it was a little slow? Many thanks.
Thanks for reply ... I will bare that in my concerning Google and Mycroft's latency.
She cut the 5-6 secs
Prebuild image doesn't work. "This board requires newer software" but last version is from 2020 🙄 Not compatible with rpi 4 :(
Hello ,i burn the picroft image to sd card , but after connecting it to rasberry, as well connecting the rasberry to monitor nothing is showing up and monitor is showing no input available.
Please help me with that
Hi Great video! I have a question... I have installed the rapberry pi os on my sd card and flashed and and I am currently using that for some projects. If I add Mycroft on there will it still keep that os or will it erase everything on my sd card when I try to flash it on there? Please let me know and keep it up (:
yea if you flash everything will go... :(
5:22 can't we just a ssh.txt file in the boot so that shh is enabled with plugging in s monitor, I could do that on Raspbian
just put an empty file called “ssh” not ssh.txt ...
@@fltngmmth that will also work : )
how to reboot there in the end
ctrl + c and then type sudo reboot
Can you change the name of the AI assistant? Example : hey ____ something else instead of hey Jarvis?
Yes, in fact the default is actually "hey mycroft" though using the standard ones may yield more consistent wake ups.
Can you install mycroft on an existing raspberry pi install?
Yes, use the git install method.
Yes, but... I will discuss today at 3 pm EST on #CarolineLive ua-cam.com/video/iTfEy9yJMok/v-deo.html
It's easier this way right but you can also try DIET PI which is a minimal Raspbian image
If you ask a question, how many seconds will you get the answer?
Cool, is there something similar that could work offline or selfhosted?
Not me putting Microft into my to-do list
Hello mam may I make this project by raspberry pi zero
Please mam
Would it also work on the old BeagleBoard Black I have laying around, lazywebs?
can it run with raspberry pi zero w ? please give me the answer
Some people have said it will only work with Raspberry pi 3 and above same as the other systems except for maybe google which occasionally works on the pi zero w but not well.
How did you get your 3.5mm to work?
Yeh 3.5mm audio jack didn't work for me either. Documentation is terrible. I gave up.
Can we run Linux Scripts along with MyCroft Image? Like installating Python and run Python scripts simultaneously.
Yes. It is regular linux distro, just setup in way to be easy to install. You can do everything you would be able to do in regular linux installation.
Where can I get the wpa_supplicant?
Idk either did you find it out?
No
No
Great video, but I can’t go to my pi’s terminal
Connect your wifi and complete all the required steps
Funny, how you cut off those 5-10 seconds waiting time before getting an actual response from this voice assistant, just to make it look better than it is.
ooh!
It will erase my sd card ??
This is portrayed as "private" personal assistant ... The first thing you have to do is to ... register 🤣
The whole friggin point with avoiding Alexa, Siri and Google is that you do not expose anything ... You want to be, you guessed it ... private.
There is a lot of community (and company) work for fully offline support. Currently the issue stt support so they strip meta data from audio and use googles stt. There is a setup for Mozilla's deepspeach local setup, but it is less than ideal without tunning (at least a month or ago when I last tried).
Has to match the voice !!!
does it have to be connected to wifi
3.5 mm audio jack didn't work for me at all. Stuck.
Is the wake word/name changable
yes
@@Caroline how?
Strange terminal
All gone now... sadly
I find it hard to trust anything in this video when you clearly felt the need to edit the gaps that occur during processing to make it look smarter. That seems unfair, I have no idea if the lag you removed was 1 second or 3.5, but it was bad enough that you removed it on every single demonstration, even a few cuts where you might have had to try a few times. Why not show us how it’s really like to use it?
Do you really want to watch 5+ minutes of scrolling messages while the system setup is running or when the Pi is rebooting? I'm guessing you've never set up a Raspberry Pi.
