I definitely agree with you. I think he needed an outlet for his love of hip-hop. A new band and clean slate to play a different style of music. It worked out really well for him. It could have been a flop, but those hit songs are undeniably good.

Thanks for the comment. I took a lot of sonic inspiration from the song, "Sound Check (Gravity)". The first Gorillaz album is my favorite. Love all their albums. "Gravity-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh"

Usually, context behind the song changes a lot of preferences. Here, we know that Ben was purposely doing it; so, the forced nature of it made it cringe. For me, for example, it took a second listen on both songs to get used to it since I began to omit the context.
