Thank you so much for this video. I had been quoted thousands to replace the transmission in our 2006 Pacifica with only 74K miles. I conducted the test as you described to verify the issue... I bought a new alternator and was back on the road again! This really helped my Family because both our cars were down.
Just want to extend an extreme thank you for this video. You saved us hundreds of dollars on my 2006 Pacifica. We had the codes and had bought the new output speed sensor and replaced it. We were looking at a transmission shop for more than the car was worth! Your "test" was perfect and our new alternator is making the transmission run perfect! Thank you again and again for making this video.
You are welcome. I'm glad you found that video. That issue can lead people down the wrong road and out thousands of dollars as you have already seen. Make sure to subscribe and share these videos with others
I wished I had seen your video a week or two ago. I ended up spending $350.00 replacing the speed sensors and not getting the problem solved and later taken to the dealership and getting a diagnostic for them to tell me the alternator was the problem. This is very helpful. Thank you very much.
Thank you so very much I just saved $$$$ because I own this vehicle and my wife drives it to and from work daily. It has been in the shop twice before and given us problems and had the p0720 error code both times. Your video saved us from getting took again. The technician was about to stick us for a transmission job till I saw your video and showed him at the garage. My 2005 Pacifica was doing exactly what the video was showing so I got him to replace the alternator, problem solved. Thank you!!!!
Thats awesome. You did great by deciding to search on line and seeing what was out there and eventually finding my channel. Its an odd issue and I see it getting diag. wrong all the time. Glad that it turned out well in the end and hope that mechanic learned something as well. Appreciate you letting me know how it turned out. Subscribe and check out my other videos as well.
The P0720 code has been coming up on my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica for the last month and I was told by my mechanic it may be Transmission related. I'm so glad I found your video as my car is doing the same thing with the speedometer. I will try disconnecting the alternator and see if that works and will have that replaced. Thank you so much!
I feel good that it will most likely be the same issue as in the video. Thanks for watching and for trying out the steps in the video. Make sure to subscribe and keep watching my videos!
You are my new hero. I had the codes read a Auto zone and sent my wufe to the garage thst does most of the work that I can't take care of. They didn't even look at be cause they don't do transmission work and refered to trans shop. Trying to get an idea what I might be looking at cost wise I started to research and ran across your vide. The symptoms were exactly as you said and the test results too. I asked the shop to test the alternator. But they said they couldn't be sure the problem would be fixed by changing the alternator. Anyway they wanted $600 for the job.I decided to get the part and change it myself saving $400. Everyone told me I was crazy but the car runs and shifts better than ever.
I'm glad you didn't listen to them and took the time to research. As you saw......look at the money you saved. It's cool to see that the video helped another person. Keep researching issues in the future and always get that second opinion before taking their word as gold. Make sure to subscribe and share the videos
Crazy this only has 67 views when this the most straight forward explanation I've come across before. Same issue, 2006 dodge stratus, P0720 and P0700. Replaced both input and output speed sensors and didn't fix the issue. I saw another website mention the alternator and checking for bad diodes. This is the ONLY youtube video I saw that mentioned anything about the alternator.
vipertech30813 Yes it was the alternator, I had it checked today and it came back with a failed diode reading. I replaced the alternator and I am struggling with one coolant line bolt. So I should have it up and running tomorrow and I will be able to confirm if it ends up clearing all the codes and issues.
Aye it's fixed 06 pacifica has another leg to stand on plus I have emissions next year. I did my own labor I will consider more projects like this. Thank you very much.
Just had one pull in with the same problems. Pulled generator field plug and sure enough it quit. Thanks for the helpful video for I'm a small shop mechanic.
+Nicholas Spaur Awesome! Glad to see that the video helped. The videos might not be something you need today....but you may need them tomorrow. So make sure to subscribe if you haven't already
Awesome! Glad that it worked out. Its an issue thats not common and pretty much rare....great job on researching the issue and getting it repaired. Make sure to subscribe
I did what you suggested and got the same results. My other questions are; I had a local auto parts store run a code scan. These were the codes in order. P0720, P0700, P0732, P1790, and P1684 all confirmed. In your opinion, do you think, replacing the alternator is a starting point? Also, see my question on replacing the alternator. Thanks for making these videos. It kinda saves people from being shafted by shady mechanics. Me being one of them.
From one tech to another, excellent video. I have a few customers with them and I would have never thought the alternator could cause that problem. I can't imagine how that would be wired to cause that issue with the transmission. I replaced a catalytic converter on one yesterday, and the top nut snapped the head of the stud. I'm certain you know how that went.
+Marc Smith I'm sure there is a reason for the alternator causing that but i can't personally say for sure. Possible erratic voltage reading due to defective alternator? I haven't ever heard more about why from Chrysler as of yet. Last thing I want to have happen to me is a snapped off bolt or stud. Can make for a very long day! Thanks for the comment and font forget to subscribe!
Thank you so much, I just was scared, thinking on my transmission....I have 2006 Pacifica with 170000 miles and I used the code reader, give to me P0700 a issue with the transmission, now thanks to you I hope is a issue with my alternator... Replace soon and update the review 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad to see that it wasnt the trans. Good job researching and finding the video. Glad to get the word out there and help people save money. Thanks for the feedback. Dont forget to subscribe and enjoy the weekend.
Great Video, I suspect I have the same issue, when driving my 2007 pacifica will make a zip tie noise between 2nd and 3rd gear. When I check it with the auto stick as soon as it makes the noise my auto stick is showing its in 5th gear when it should be in 3rd. Any suggestions an what that could be? Speed sensor or alternator? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hey great video I have 05 Pacifica with code p0720 and p0700 speedometer jumps while am driving kind of same Symptoms but when am driving just did alternator yesterday and I think it’s worse any tips????
Glad to hear that was the issue and now you know the solution. I have found the same issue on the minivans as well. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
I had this same problem and came across this video! saved me lots of money! now I keep getting p0403 and p0032 codes. changed both egr valve and oxygen sensor. But my car is now shutting off when idle. Any suggestions??
I have an 07 Pacifica..slams into drive then goes into limp mode..I turn off to reset and drives normally for awhile..few days or a week...then shifts jerky then goes back into limp mode again...for now I can shut off car and it will reset...no speedometer issue...u think speed sensors?
Driving my 07 Caravan down the road, something suddenly started howling like a wolf, battery light, MIL light came on and trans defaulted to second gear. I suspected the alternator. I pulled over opened the hood and the alternator was smoking and glowing inside. I have never in 47 years in the trade heard and alternator howl that loud. Must be a Denso thing. :-) I unplugged it and drove 10 min. home. The trans worked fine.
Hate that it's having a problem but glad that you know the cause and how to get it back on the road after watching the video. Make sure to subscribe and help spread the word by sharing these videos with others
I dont remember it doing that but it could. Try disconnecting the connector on the back of the alternator and see if any change. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
Tengo una pacifica 2005 y el velocimetro se mueve solo y en el escaner marca 25a 30km estando en ralenti. Codigo p0720 y p0700. Que me recomienda hacer primero?
Hi, i have the same issue with my pacifica 2005. I am not sure i understood can you confirm that to solve this problem the only thing to do is replacing the alternator ? Thanks in advance for your time and thanks to publish this video
Max Cucchi Hey there Max.....what you can do to see if the issue is the alternator is to disconnect the electrical connector on the back of the alternator and then try to get it to act up. If the issue is now gone then you know you need the alternator.
Have you ever had a Pacifica with the fluctuating fuel gauge problem? Where as, at half a tank the gauge suddenly drops to empty then returns to half, again and again. Low fuel light on and off and alarm bell sounds. The fuel system is complicated. Saddle tank with two fuel modules.
Its not a common issue that I have run across. Checking thru the service bulletins doesnt pull any thing up related. It may come down to reading the data to make sure the data matches the reading on the cluster. If they match then you may need to replace with level units.
Yeah I was going to ask you what the year was.....When I did the quick check I looked up 2008 as a guess. I thought I remember there being something....makes since now.
I'm a DIYer and don't have expensive scanner. I was looking for someone with a video trouble shooting this common defect Chrysler invented. On the web there is a lot of written info, but I can't find a step by step video.
Zoe Roberts Removing the negative cable will make everything safe to work on and no chance of damaging anything. You can disconnect both but that's just an additional step that's not needed....just the ground. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe
I have a Fiat Punto 2011 dualogic.I have p0720 code at only and always 130 km/h speed. When the car is under 120 km/h code (warning) is disappearing.i changed the oss and complete gearbox. Still same problem. :(What do u think? Where should i look to fix it? Please help me.
What if it's only the po7040 code 05 Chrysler pacifica 3.5 no flickering lights on or no problem shifting some times when driving on freeway like 50 or 60 it feels like down shift then continues normally
My 05 Pacifica is doing the exact same thing and I even disconnected the alternator like you did in the video and the mph stopped jerking up to 20mph but I went to get the alternator replaced and the mechanic said the alternator was good?!? Is this possible? ? Or should I still replace it? ?
You verified the issue by disconnecting it. Is the alternator charging....sure it is, but its causing an issue in the electrical system causing the speedo issue. Sounds like you need to take it to another mechanic or replace it yourself. It appears they dont know of this issue. It needs to be replaced if you disconnected it and it stopped acting up. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe
Glad you took the advice....hopefully that mechanic learned something new and the next time they see this issue they will know what to do. Thanks for the update.
I got the p0720 code along with a p1790 code. I wast he'd your video, but my speedometer doesn't jump around like that. Should I still check for a bad alternator?
theres no harm in unplugging the alternator and then see what happens. may get lucky then again it may be an actual trans issue. thanks for taking time to comment and ask questions. make sure to subscribe as well
Oh ok and I will try that out as well. So would buying these in and output sensors be out of the question?? Everything/symptoms u displayed I don't have those issues. Sometimes when I'm at a stop light all of a sudden I would feel a little jerk. Or apon accelerating I get a jerk. Other than that, I don't have any issues noticed on my gauges. It's been going on for about 4 months now. I'm j u st now getting around to getting it fixed and ordered the transmission sensors
tee smith you can replace the sensors if you wish....I rather check the sensors first before throwing parts at it but I understand if you don't have the means to check them. speed sensor issues can cause codes and if so. place
.....the trans in limp in mode which is 4th gear only. usually you wouldn't notice a symptom like a jerk just by itself. if you do replace them, let me know how it goes
I have a similar problem like on your video, my 04 pacífica when u try turning it on it will install then after 10 secs or so it will start then if u press the gas pedal y won't go more the 30 miles and it acts like it wants to die, I put it on neutral and it does the same.. I replaced the cam sensor and the crack sensor.. still the same thing. . I took it to the Chrysler dealer and the toll me it was the cam sensor not getting voltage and the knock sensor. any help would be appreciated.
I havent personally come across that issue as of yet. Its one of those things where you will need to run different tests and check the wiring as well. There isnt one specific thing I can tell you to check. Its more of a "I need to get my hands on it" type of repair that I cant help much with online with this keyboard. I just cant think of anything common for that concern at the moment
+Frederick Schupbach I wish I had a quick answer but I don't. To summarize so that you get the idea....the lower sub frame has to be removed. That requires supporting the engine and trans with a support fixture/bar. It requires a lot of work to get to removing the transmission. As far as specific details....I don't have a video on that and it would take a lot of info to explain all the steps. Thanks for the question
I have a 05 pacifica and at 3000 rpms its at like 30 mph I pull over and shut if off and it resets it I do it like 5 or 6 times a day then it will run right the code I am getting is a p0700 code what is that
The code P0700 is always found in the PCM (powertrain control module) and means one thing....that there is a code in the TCM and that you need to go to the TCM to retrieve the code. That is where we will find the cause of your symptoms. You need access to a scanner that can retrieve codes from modules other then just the PCM, ABS, or Airbag like simple code readers do. Once you get the code or codes......let me know and I will help you further
I'm having a problem with my pacifica the problem is that I have to reset it every time I turn it on by taking the plugs of the battery and it's back to its self they are telling me that I have to buy a new computer for it but I'm not sure where it is
juan corona Hello Juan....to answer your question, if you unplug it and use it like that your battery will go dead and you would be on the side of the road eventually. What would happen is that it would not charge the battery.
+Humberto Lucio It depends on all the codes....if your showing a solenoid related code it will not be related to the one in the video. Depending on the transmission you have it may need to have the solenoid pack replaced. On the 41TE its mounted on the outside. I am attaching a link to a video I made on replacing the solenoid pack on a different vehicle but same part and same procedure....if you have this same transmission. ua-cam.com/video/fVSN5Qvuprc/v-deo.html
I never had a pacifica, but i did have a pt cruiser and it was in &out the shop all together like 15x i it went from overheating issues like 7x then it would start wheen it wanted to,dashboard went crazy lightung up etc....i would never ever buy a dodge chrysler fiat ,ram ever again....those cars suck money out of people. .my advice uf you have 1junk it,or trade it in and go buy a honda or toyota, try and stay away from anerican cars ,all fiat, chrysler, dodge, ram ,cars are junk

Please give as much detail about why your having to reset everything. Whats the symptoms?
one more thing is that the reason it wont speed up
Wat would happen if I just unplug it and use it like that???
juan corona Hello Juan....to answer your question, if you unplug it and use it like that your battery will go dead and you would be on the side of the road eventually. What would happen is that it would not charge the battery.
It's probably the alternator
cumputer shows solinod h some like that
+Humberto Lucio It depends on all the codes....if your showing a solenoid related code it will not be related to the one in the video.
