I had this game also and couldn’t get past the warm levels. This is the first time I’ve ever seen something in echo the dolphin besides warm water. I was blown away.
Incidentally speaking of the devs being influenced by Pink Floyd, this speedrun of Ecco the Dolphin is 3 seconds longer than Pink Floyds song 'Echoes' on Spotify.
Such a good run! I still can't make it past the first occurrence of Eight Arms in Undercaves and I had this game as a kid. My brother got past it and after that we used the code. Incredible skill to make controlling Ecco look so easy.
Pleasantly surprised to hear Mecheon as a couch commentator. Always enjoyed watching your older videos. As for the run. My god, I never knew how savage some of the skips were. I played it as a kid, and it probably took me the better part of a day to complete it if I really put my focus into it. Exiting through the wrong side of the level, Walls being suggestions, Glyph skips .... I'm amazed and entertained. Great run and commentary!
the way the aliens lose their bodies but can still move their heads, it's like when a chicken can lose their head but still run around. It's just reversed
I never got past the Asterite in Dark Water, I had no idea to charge certain globes, how does it work? Is it always one colour or is it sometimes a random colour? One of the games I never finished, none of my mates knew, and it wasn't in the magazines so that was it! I did the final boss by password and can do that no problem, but the machine level can fall off a cliff, as a PAL UK resident there were no checkpoints for me!
For the Asterite in Dark Water, you must charge several (five I think?) globes of the same color (can be any color). Pick a color and try to hit only those ones.
Runner introduction starts at 0:15
Run starts at 1:49

I got this game with my Mega CD when I was 8 years old. Thanks for showing me what's past the first level.

I know right. This game got super weird who would have knew.
I’ve never got passed the first level either lol
This. Lol
lol
Kids in the 90's
What they wanted : A cute dolphin game
What they got : Sci Fi horror
So true haha! 😂
I would even describe it as a Lovecraftian Horror.
4 minutes in and he's already farther than I ever got in this game when I was a kid. Good lord lol
I still don't believe any kid beat this game back in the day.
The only reason I beat it as a kid was thanks to finding out about the infinite health glitch from gamefaqs
My mom beated it 2 times without cheat or glitch, ans I still don't know how she did that
@@clay-ixtra8323she read the manual
I think this game might be the source of my (reasonable) anxiety about underwater caves.

Shout out to Blueglass running this back in the day.
Speeding through such a difficult game always gives emotional elation.
Good job, man!
I always gave up in the first level. The act that you guys got this good just amazes me.
They never explained the storyline during the auto-scroller :'(

I remember playing this as a kid when it came out. I had no idea there was tome travel and aliens in it haha
Chat's reaction to the vortex queen was priceless lol
God I was one of the many back in the day freaking out over that thing. Thalassophobia, specifically. Always had it.
The music in this game is great. It was unlike anything else at the time (that I knew of).
I never knew how to get out of the starting area.....
I never did past 1st level
The exit from The Machine is so weird!
Love the music in this one, great run!
I respect this game so much for its concept even though I've never beaten it. As a kid it's really tough lol.
Great run and commentary! 🐬
nice job grimmy you kicked butt, way to represent ecco, hope we can see you do tides of time next time

awesome run well done! loved ecco back in the day had it for megadrive
Thank you fir showing me the other levels in this game. I had it for the genesis and couldn’t get past the first level.
Early 90s gaming memories right here 💯
Just found out recently about this game (and the successor on DC). How could I miss it when I was a child? Nice to see it on GDQ, great run !
Very entertaining run. Thank you!
Did the developers expect a child to play this game and not get nightmares?
Echo destroyed a alien civilization who was just taking some water for their survival just to swim with his pod lol
Amazing run by Grim!
this game is fuckin metal
Amazing run. Extremely underestimated game
It would be so great if someone were to remake this game without the same level of sadism present in the original release
This game was deep.
Great run
Creator of ecco: i made it hard so kids wouldnt beat it in a weekend
this guy: hold my beer
love the shout out to AVGN!

How are you even supposed to know what to do in the game as a first time player? Some of it seems so off the wall!
Ecco…. The Superman of dolphins 🐬 hahahahahaha
game fast
Aha I'm early
