Pitiful and colorless sounds as replacement for the dashing and brilliant voice needed for the role, actually needed for all Verdi. The wobble drives me crazy and the tiny top he still has is all squeezed. When the mezza voce sounds like one's singing in a barrel, it's time to let go. That was seven years ago and he is still clinging to the stage.
Can nobody hear his voice is in shambles and been like this for at least ten years? Why this fashion of singing the wrong rep in your 50's and later? Probably because they can't sing even their "right" rep by then and must reinvent themselves ... and if the marketing is big enough audiences swallow anything .
I disagree. In 2020 he is still singing, and singing well. It is a hard voice at this point in his life, but his technique is rock solid and he still has an amazing range. You may not like the timber and quality of his voice, but his voice is not in shambles.
@@e-bikeskibum7141 This isn't a matter of liking or not liking his timbre . Part of the problem is there isn't any timbre to speak of , for the last decade there weren't five adjoining semitones in his range with the same color . Add to this a big wobble and constriction on top , and I wonder what on Earth do you mean with "rock solid technique" . Technique seems to be the big thingie on utube these days , everybody talks about it , few understand what they're talking about .
@@Nangis123 No opera singer survives in the repertoire Kunde sings in, and for as many years as he has sung it, without good technique. I am a tenor and have studied voice for 45 years and undersand the pitfalls of singing tenor quite well and Kunde couldn't be singing like this into his 60's without good technique. The wobble is a bit in this aria, but there are plenty aria's after this one that have hardly any wobble. He is no spring chicken, but clearly his technique is solid. I guess we will have to agree to disagree here.
@@e-bikeskibum7141 Yes ,you have already told me you disagree , I don't understand why you keep repeating it , I have understood you from the first . Your definition of "technique" conveniently ignores all the issues I mentioned in my previous comment , no need for me to repeat myself .I guess we'll have to agree to disagree about the definition of "survival" too , I am of the opinion in our times it is perfectly possible to have an ongoing career with a voice in shambles , plenty of examples .Career and survival depend on marketing .cheers
