Excuse me Chris, but why we use "one" in "to whash one's hands" whike we wash two hands ? And why there is the "apostrophe S', like a possessive ? Is it beacause the word "one" is the people, not a hand ??? So, is it like "someone" ?? thanks Chris.
Hi Sam. Yes, "one's" is a possession. In a grammar dictionary it is called 'a possessive determiner'. We are talking about our own hands here (nos propres mains) - not just 1! "one's" is not commonly used normally we would say "our" or something similar but in this circumstance we use 'one's".
