    Please be aware that this Study was conducted with THE FROZEN FOOD FOUNDATION. One should be cautious if that, similar to when a tanning bed producer makes a study on cancerogenic dangers of tanning beds. • @tedwashburn

    I eat frozen blueberries every day added to yogurt. But I’ve come to realize that they just aren’t tasty. They are dry and crunchy with no flavor or sweetness. I think the producers just freeze dry everything then sell some of it as “frozen”. I am trying canned blueberries and they are better than frozen but not as tasty as fresh. Frozen blackberries seem to have the same problem but frozen strawberries do not. They taste good. I’ve tried different brands and while some are better than others, none taste very good. I’ve taken some fresh blueberries then frozen them and that works well. I end up with tasty, juicy berries in my yogurt. I wish I could buy frozen blueberries that taste good when defrosted.
    I am a little worried that their processing not only spoils the texture and flavor but impacts the nutritional value as well.

      You’d think that having them frozen would be even better because cooking or thawing it would lower the nutritional value.
      And blending it would just make it easier to digest and therefore increase the bioavailability of all the good stuff inside. Could be wrong but it makes sense, right?

    • @kevinhuxley9252
      @kevinhuxley9252 2 роки тому +1

      @@KlyWest 1. Freezing retains all the nutrients. 2. Blending retains all the nutrients of the vegetables, including fiber. With fruits, bldending increases sugar surge because more free sugars are released from cells. Same with vegetables, but there are fewer sugars to begin with, so its acceptable.

    Like most people don't have time every morning to make a green smoothie full of a variety of greens and mushroom, so I go to my organic markets every few weeks and get a massive batch of greens and mushrooms, blend them in a vitamix then put them into small daily serve containers and freeze them for a month. Every night I put one in the fridge to defrost, then add berries to taste when I blend them in the morning and take to work. Because I have frozen the veggies myself I know they have not been blanched. I highly recommend this if you don't have time to make them fresh everyday, to avoid your veggies dying in the fridge as Thomas
    mentioned, unless you grow your own, which I currently can't do.

    • @JigsawHealthTV
      @JigsawHealthTV  6 років тому +10

      Hello, there,
      Like frozen vegetables, canned ones are also processed right after being harvested. However, sodium is often added to canned products as a preservative-- so that's a draw back.

  • @mrme4057
    @mrme4057 3 роки тому +5

    The study you referred to was clearly funded by am entity involved in frozen foods. Fresh plants ALWAYS have more nutrients, and the study did not mention organic vs non organic so there are many loopholes in the study that could result in inaccurate conclusions. However, I still learned from the video and appreciate you posting it.

    • @KevTheHunter1
      @KevTheHunter1 3 роки тому +2

      That's if you eat it that same day, say prepping a family meal or dinner for that same night. Then yes there maybe be some benefit as it's being used immediately and only suffers a minor nutritional loss from farm to grocery store. Otherwise no, that is false because the more time a fruit/vegetable spends not connected to the stem they were harvested from, the more they die/lose nutritional value. With frozen fruits/veggies, they preserve their nutritional value as they do not deteriorate in the same way as fresh fruits and veggies do. As stated in the video...
      The whole organic vs non-organic is bullshit in my opinion and is not worth spending 2 extra dollars for the same thing. If you truly want "organic" foods, it's best to grow them yourself if you're worried about pesticides that much.
      The whole organic vs non-organic debate has its own independent studies so there was no need to compare as, again, there are no significant differences in nutritional value when it comes to organic vs non-organic fruits/veggies.

    • @Anisha-q5t
      @Anisha-q5t 2 роки тому +1

      Fresh veggies of course have more nutrients but you have to cook and eat it the same day.
      Like in the older days our grand and greatgrand parents used to do, bring veggies from market or pick it from their own farm and cook it the same day for the whole family. Well, gone are those days, if you can do this in such busy lifestyle then hats off to you, but not everyone can.

    • @mrme4057
      @mrme4057 2 роки тому +1

      @@Anisha-q5t true that. The big part nobody talks about is 90% of the time you have to heat up the frozen foods in order to eat them. This oftentimes reduces the nutritional value to less of that originally advertised, and no comparison has been done between fresh cooked vegetables and frozen cooked vegetables. If that study were done I assume it would be clear that fresh contains more nutritional value but it course this is just discussion and I have no way to know without expensive equipment

    Yo this is crazy why doesn’t freezing kill the nutrients?? We can prepare gourmet food in huge batches and distribute it to everyone. Why are they cooking the food at homeless shelters?? Why not just send huge blocks of frozen food?

    • @marcofeature
      @marcofeature 2 роки тому +1

      Nutrients were never "alive" so you cannot kill them, but they can decompose. The freezing process stops/slows down the decomposition process, just like when you store flour in a cooler place so that it lasts longer. Frozen veggies may not necessarily be cheaper than non-frozen ones. They also require different storage, logistic, and cocking procedure compared to non-frozen ones. If you're interested in that I think you can call directly to a homeless shelter and ask them.
