This was GREAT. I had SharePoints and Teams mapped as drives, but once the company went to OneDrive File Explorer stopped working for those drives. Your tutorial was great in getting me back up and better organized than ever. Outstanding.
Glad you covered the send to onedrive links. My biggest bug bear and danger with syncing SharePoint libraries is that people don't know how to remove a sync. Instead they will do what comes naturally. Yep select all and delete. I know there are protections in there. Yet old habits die hard. It's an education thing. Which for me is why I would rather use the links than a sync considering how many teams people are now members of. Leaving sync for offline purposes only. Just my in the field experience and another reason why we implemented a backup solution. Though retention policies libraries are an option.
Can you share how to remove a sync? I ended up syncing my entire teams folder to my file explorer for easier access, and then my computer got so slow. Like, it takes 5 seconds to react when I click something. My job’s IT team is currently trying to help me but so far I lost half a workday test day and half today because my computer is so slow
Great video--I am going to use Sync or the Create a Shortcut to my workplace SharePoint site--do you have a suggestion on which is better and more user friendly?
Thanks for a great explanation of the connection between OneDrive/Sharepoint/Teams! Ironically, I ordered your Teams book this morning - I had no idea you were the author unitl I got to the presale promotion at the end 🙂
Thank you very much for your insightful videos! This is exactly what I was looking for. As Owner of a company OneDrive, can I check which folders/files other users shared outside the organization?
Great content! Thank you! So, if I drag-and-drop a local file to a linked Teams channel (via OneDrive) is that file stored in Teams/Sharepoint or is a link to my OneDrive stored in the Teams channel?
I have a question though. I successfully uploaded a file to One drive on my PC and downloaded the One drive app on my phone. When I finished setting up on my phone though, the file I had uploaded on my phone didn't show. What can I do?
Does all of this apply if you have an admin portal where you manage a group of active users? What about the sharepoint active sites? How do you set all that up?
Thank you for all your help! Honestly I was trying to understand how the 3 interfaces connect with each other. I am hired to organize a filing system and I am still learning about the interface. I needed to fix a syncing issue and thanks to you it is resolved. I will be checking out more videos to see if there's more information I need to know.
Thank you for nice video, Question-If we sync any specific folder to onedrive/local PC and if afterwards we don't have access to that teams, will the folders/documents remains in local computer ?
Thank you very much Matt, super helpful. Like so many others I was struggling to get the most out of M365. Really wish I watched this when you first released it.
Since IE is being discontinued, we are having troubles authenticating our users through our Mapped Network SharePoint Drive. Now we must use this sync feature to use File Explorer View... which is really inconvenient. Wonder why Microsoft didn't include this functionality when creating Edge?
Hi, greate video! I have an issue: how can l add, delete, modify data in Sharepoint List using my LOCAL EXCEL file WITH MACROs? I'm creating a program in local excel with a lot of usefull things, and one of this thing is need to create a task from local file into sharepoint list and via versa!! is it possible? Can you give me some way, direction, how can I do this, what i have to use additionally? thanks in advance
Hi do I need to be on a MS Teams business plan for this to happen? Because right now I'm using the free version and I can't sync the Team. I can only sync the channel folders and they too appear as folders in my OneDrive not as an organization, the way you showed in the video. Please help, thanks.
Yeah, great overview... One question on that, perhaps for more details... What about syncing an whole team by sharepoint (how you recommended) and closed channels? For that i have to go to every closed and "secret" channel to get them to sync. Or is there any other nice hint?
You’re talking about private channels and each one has its own SharePoint site associated with it. You have to sync them separately. Private channels are a complex feature, so you should know what you’re getting into when using them. More info: jum.to/privatechannels
Thanks for a great video, the sync function is really nice. Question, when I want to attach a file in an email (not a link) because I send the email outside the organization. Is it best to use synced sharepoint to find the file by the file explorer? It is much more complicated to access the files directly from sharepoint into an e-mail. The smooth function available in for example Word to open a sharepoint library does not seem to work as well when I attach a file in Outlook and want to pick it from just sharepoint. What is your experience?
This video was super helpful! You really boiled a lot of information down into nice digestible chunks :) Using the sync feature on my laptop, I can upload files to our team's SharePoint when I am offline (i.e. no internet or cell service in a field situation), and all my files will upload once I connect to the internet. When I try to do this on my phone using the "make available while offline" feature, OneDrive tries to upload files to SharePoint, but fails, and I need to upload the files manually once I get service. Is there a way for me to add files when I don't have service, but make sure they upload automatically once I get it (like there is for my laptop)? You guys rock!
Excellent video. Thank you. So, to sum up, SharePoint/Team and OneDrive are 2 different storages. We can point from OneDrive to SharePoint (stored in SharePoint but can access in OneDrive) by using "add shortcut to OneDrive" button. But can we do it the other way (stored in OneDrive and appear in SharePoint)? Thanks much in advance.
Not really, no. OneDrive is meant to be your personal view into all files you use. SharePoint is dedicated shared space. Everyone else’s OneDrive is their space. So there’s not really the intent to see OneDrive content in SharePoint (at least not for others to access).
I am having trouble getting my photos from my digital camera to my PC photos because it won't upload them. Do I need to start a different app to put them in?
Matt, very nice video. The only issue i have with sync and add to one drive is with my users is that it depends on where it the user will be using the mobile clients (android, ios). If the user is using the mobile client alot , you have to use the add to one drive shortcut. The syncing while users like the Syncing option as it can mimick a shared drive layout, you will not see them on the mobile client.
This video shows a Teams/SP folder on iOS available via the OneDrive folder listing thanks to “Add shortcut to OneDrive”. Or is that not what you mean?
@@jumpto365 What i meant is that if you sync the folder, via the sync option it will not show on the mobile clients. The only way that you can sync a library for the mobile clients is via the "Add shortcut to onedrive" and then the library will appear on the mobile onedrive client. You mentioned in the video that you can do either one (sync or "add shortcut to onedrive"). I just wish that MSFT made a universal way of sharing. I have users that are strictly mobile (either ipad or android only) and had to explain to them to only use the "add shortcut to onedrive" while i have users that like the more traditional way of having folders look like shared drives by using sync but realized that when they needed the file on their phone, they couldn't see it as it was synced not shortcuted
@@rangiz99 I think the Libraries section of the OneDrive app is what you are looking for. That is where users can see the document folders associated with Team and Communication sites.
By chance do you have a video to do the opposite, unsync/unlink Onedrive from teams. My personal onedirve is currently linked to my work teams account and I have seen a few of my personal files located in their teams files. I have no idea how I made that mistake Help!
SharePoint sync question - how will synced changes from offline be reconciled if two people have the file offline at the same time but make radically different changes before reconnecting? Do they checkout the file first? And if so, how do you check-out the file if offline?
When you reconnect to the internet, the OneDrive sync app will announce the conflict and run you through steps to resolve the conflict. Try it with a colleague and see what happens. Good way to be prepared for when it happens for real.
I am not sure that this is helpful because I sure am confused. As near as I can tell from this video, the sync feature brings cloud files to your PC. But I have files on my PC that are also stored on the cloud (One Note, One Drive, Sahre Point, it is all confusing). I want to be able to hit a sync button and those files that are not already on the cloud will get to the cloud.

I keep getting a synch error for a file that is in a sharepoint folder for which I have created the shortcut link to allow the folder to show up in my file explorer area. The error won't let me delete the file with the issue and can't clear the error. Is there a solution to this?
Bro I don't want to download any thing to my laptop, I just want to save videos in microsoft team to my one drive without downloading them into laptop and uploading them into onedrive. How can I do that?
