With Eva being such a wonderful cook I'm sure she could make you a really mean ribollita

I'm Asian (Viet/Korean raised by a single Vietnamese mom) and soup is the backbone of my culture. We Vietnamese typically eat pho for breakfast. I can happily eat soup at least once a day for the rest of my life -- no joke! My husband (who is of European descent) does not understand my love for soup, and I don't understand how he doesn't love it. There is just something so comforting about soup, especially on a cold day, or if I'm under the weather. Soup is love in a bowl. It's a delicious, edible, warm hug.

Same for Easter Europe... In addition, for Westerners, soup time is dinner, and we usually have it at lunch 😢
Surprisingly, there are a number of soups in France, from velouté to peasant's kind of soup, so generally it is fine but for the time of the day

as a Dominican-American, whose family hails from a hot-as-balls Caribbean island, who eats sancocho (meat soup/stew) year round, I also agree that soup is essential for me: clear broths, creamy broths, stews--I don't discriminate! Soup is extraordinary. People can live on soup and even have soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from various national cuisines. Soup is filling and healthy. You will never get sick from hot soup. The boiling kills all bacteria. Homemade Italian-style chicken soup is a miracle food. The Zuppa Pavese looks fabulous. I’ve never had it, but I am going to make it. Thanks Eva.

I can understand why people who live in warm climates really don’t care for soup.
I live in New England and a great homemade soup or stew is just so comforting!!! I’m watching this in the hazy hot humid month of August and I’m pretty sad that summer is almost over. For me soup is one of the only reasons to I like winter. I hate the winter and the snow and the sleet and ice and shoveling and the only way to get through all of that crap is a homemade soup or stew also there’s lots of great winter comfort foods!!

If you're looking for sheep, a good place is the South Asian Muslim markets with a halal butcher. Usually it's labelled mutton. A good substitute for mutton is goat. The Arab butchers for that, but I reckon if you have Africans, Jamaicans, and/or Dominicans in the area they may direct you to their sources. Both are much cheaper but tastier than lamb, but longer cooking time because they're tough. And goats are hearty beasts that can handle the desert. You ought to raise a few in the garden, Harper.

I love soup, stews, chowder. Growing up in Vermont meant lots of those dishes during Fall and winter. Some of my favorites are my mother's bean soup (fresh green/yellow beans from the garden), diced salt pork in a milk & butter broth. The irony is that beans from the garden are harvested in late summer, so we were always bathed in sweat eating this hot soup in August! So yummy, though. Winter meant corn or fish chowder, beef stew, etc. I also made "cupboard soup" for my children when they were young, using random canned veggies, beans, etc. from the cupboard. I adore cold weather food - definitely my favorites. Love, love, love soup! Love you guys, too!❤😊

Having to pinch pennies, and not a great cook, I gravitate toward Campbell's Chunky soups as well. Have you tried their "Wicked Thai-Style" chicken based soup? The hot spices and basil helped me breathe (and enjoy it even more) when I had a bad cold after Thanksgiving. Also, adding more rice makes it a meal (especially when using gut-filling brown rice for the fiber).

Years ago we stayed in a private holiday apartment in Toscana. One evening the owner came by and gave us a dish of Zuppa di Panne his wife had made earlier in the day. OMG was that delicious! After begging for the recipe he gave it to us. (I think he knew we would never be able to really replicate it.) The bread is different, the freshness of the herbs are different and the experience and attention to detail were beyond us. Years later after many, many attempts, we get close, but never the same. And, of course, every household has its generational recipe. We learned that a lot of the bread in that area does not use much salt in it, harking back to the days of Salt Taxes. They just got used to it and adapted.

LOVE soup! Corn Chowder with shrimp and garlic-chili sauce, tomato pesto soup with grilled cheese croutons, Minestrone...made with leftovers from the fridge and topped with plain (full fat) yogurt, grated Parm/Reg, and homemade garlic/olive oil croutons.

I love soup so much, and I will make sure to try the zuppa you made in this video. I know the Zuppa Toscana at Olive Garden isn't really an Italian Zuppa, but I do really love it... I make a copycat recipe of it for my birthday every year. It's MUCH better made from scratch, of course!

My Son in-law was never a fan of soup/ stew but now every few months (sometimes more) he calls me with a request to make for him. I do know several folks that say they don't care for it, but I love it, even in the summer! Unless it's tomato based, then I hate it, the only tomato broth I will slurp up is a properly made Bloody Mary😋

Have you considered opening an online or brick and mortar Italian-Specialty store? Perhaps import, Cheese, Dried Meats, Pasta, etc….

Eva, thanks for mentioning Veneto! I am wondering why you never show us Venetian dishes! Keep well, both of you.

I remember when I was a kid before you were born. I would love to dip my peanut butter and jelly sandwich in tomato soup or chicken soup. It was delicious to me.

Vegetable beef and Chicken noodle are my favorites along with most any other than maybe a split pea.
