Great video again! Loved the drone shots. I was at Hrísey almost 2 years ago and was amazed by the natural beauty of the mountains surrounding it. It really makes it a special place. When I was there in June, the mountains were still snowy and it was rather cold outside. On a good day, you can also see whales around the island.

Yes I was looking after whales on the ferry :) The whale watching boats are often around there, and thanks for visiting :)

Lived on this Island for 6 years from the age of 4 to 10. My fondest memories are the "games event" for a lack of a better English term, when the vast majority of kids of all ages on the Islands decided to gather for an evening to play all kinds of games. Just the classic summer games we all know and love and my favorite, the snow sledding competition in the winter.
My extended family and i still own a house on the island and we visit every now and then, Sadly there aren't many kids left and i really doubt these things happen anymore. Which is a shame, but I'll always cherish those memories.

What a beautiful, small island that would be lovely to visit because of such a great location. Good to hear of Alda, Hrisey’s Grandmother and what she meant to the children as well as you. I had such a person in my life who became like a true member of our family, Rhoda. She too was generous and as a single woman was a local midwife and dependable, worker in her small community where she also played the piano in the rural church there for many years; in her later years she had her hands operated on so she could keep on playing. Some of of our children enjoyed “stay-overs” in her large home. It would be wonderful to see Alda’s house! Thanks for your presentation of this town. I hope it does grow...

Lovely description of the village/town as "an old soul". I guess I would say "be careful what you wish for"...tourism might seem like the savior to a small town, but it could bring with it unseen/unwanted consequences. I do wish the little towns well, and perhaps the internet would be kind enough to provide some option to the tourism carrot. Another lovely video, thank you.

Very well done yet again Sir, your problems are the outlying Islands problems of the UK as well - I first went to the Outer Hebrides in the late 80's and you would not recognise them today with the relative wealth that has arrived. There is a new 'cheap' airline operating out of Akureyri to the UK, I can see some of the Islands council doing a fact finding trip and taking back great money making ideas! Greetings from The Isle of Man!

I have been gone a while; it’s so nice to be back to visit with you again virtually in your beautiful country! I must come to visit in person; so much beauty and history (the purple tractor and it’s friends in Hrisey are neat to see)- As you note there is so much possibility there! Opportunity abounds. If ever I have the chance to visit I’d be honored to buy you a good refreshing beer in your favorite haunt. Your love and appreciation for Iceland and her people glows throughout your presentation; it warms my heart as you share your amazing, beautiful home with us. Wow ! An excellent narrative that hopefully puts Hrísey on the tourist trail once again. Even though there is a population decline and a "greying" of Hrísey, I am nonetheless glad that you end on an optimistic note. I have been several times to Iceland - my best friend from my university days in Oslo is Icelandic and works as a "weatherman". I have done my best to send tourists across to Iceland. Indeed, as I write this post, a friend of mine is visiting Akureyri. I made her itinerary and suggested that she travel outside of Reykjavik. She is travelling today to Hrísey but I had initially planned to travel to Grímsey as the ferries to Grímsey are not running.
Videos like yours are invaluable and provide a glimpse into life in remote communities that survive despite the economic odds stacked against them. I was particularly touched by the fact that you keep the memory of Alda Halldorsdottir alive through your video. Such humble people, the unsung heroes and pillars of many a community are often forgotten and chroniclers like you stop that sad trend.
    Bless !

I was at a showing from a bird watcher from Iceland , just as he was showing us the `black tailed godwits ` the sound failed . Luckily i had an app on my phone that had the godwits sounds on so that worked out well ! By `galloway cattle ` i guess you mean the` belties ` (i live in galloway ) Old places are the best . I am looking at spending a day in Hrisey. There is an vacancy at the Sydstibaer guest house. I would need to leave the car somewhere. Is there overnight parking in Arskogssandur from where the ferry leaves from. I have never been to Hrisey and after you video I am thinking of going there. I will be in Akureri for 6 days (7 Aug to 12 Aug.) and I think this would be a nice trip. Any suggestions. Thank you Linda and Ben

Yes it's a big parking lot there, free, many residents keep their cars there but I would suggest a round trip in Eyjafjörður, all the way from the deepest end to the mouth of the fjord, lots to see on the way and I see you are getting ready fro the big trip :) just ask if you need help :)

Island should run supercomputers and heat their homes with the heat from the processors. The most part of the power bill turns into heat that can be used to heat greenhouses or public baths, housing etc. Some customer also want to have a low carbon footprint so they are looking for services that run on green energy. It takes lots of investment, and you need some qualified staff around, but it pays well.
