  • Not as great a trip as we'd have liked, lockjaw on plenty of stops. However, we did get into some decent yellowtail and the kite fishing for BIG BLUEFIN Tuna was actually quite good. So, the bluefin are the stars of this particular show, they ate flying fish VERY well - both natural and fake were eaten equally well. A bit of controversy on this particular charter, and a lead pipe reminder to folks to have their PASSPORT - a requirement for all LR trips leaving San Diego these days. Please visit our shop in Huntington Beach, CA and our online shop (the first on the 'net over 20 years ago). www.charkbait.com
    While we enjoyed ourselves, others were in harms way serving our nation, putting their lives at risk to protect our freedoms and liberty. Something each of us needs to guard, especially now with so many rights being taken away due to the plandemic. On the day we left the dock our nation lost some of our finest in Afghanistan, needlessly some have said. Ten of these heroes were based at Camp Pendelton, in Oceanside CA. Since parasite Nancy Pelozi refused to allow their names to be read in Congress I'll so so here.
    Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David Espinoza, 20, of Rio Bravo, Tex.
    Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole Gee, 23, of Roseville, Calif.
    Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover, 31, of Utah
    Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss, 23, of Corryton, Tenn.
    Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez, 22, of Indio, Calif.

    Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, 20, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
    Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, 20, of Norco, Calif.
    Marine Corps Cpl. Daegan William-Tyeler Page, 23, of Omaha
    Marine Corps Sgt. Johanny Rosario, 25, Lawrence, Mass.
    Marine Corps Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, 22, Logansport, Ind.
    Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, 20, of Wentzville, Mo.
    Navy Hospital Corpsman Max Soviak, 22, of Berlin Heights, Ohio
    These AMERICANS gave their lives to protect our freedoms and liberty, at least that's what they were told they were doing. Each and every one of us needs a reminder that our freedoms are only one generation away from being lost. We are in that very battle now, if you don't know it now open your eyes to what's been going on for the past two years...

    WOW, what a hoot that trip must've been! You can tell by the crew and the anglers are just having an absolute ball out there! All the laughter is infectious! Man, oh, man! You'd better drug test everyone on-board, because I refuse to believer that everyone is just naturally having that good of a time! Did they replace the helium with NITROS!?!? Ha, queue the circus music, because this is a hooot!!! Wow!!! FUN-zel Washington!!! WOOWOOO!!!

      The guys on the charter made the most of a challenging trip. We had some disappointments, but also some great times.

    Long, long before COVID I was taught to renew passports 2 years before expiration (and maybe "lose" the current one 😜). Just inexcusable. Leave em at the dock! Glad you made the best of it. Thanks for sharing.

    Mark - thank you for recognizing the American heroes that gave their lives for our freedoms. I spent most summers on the base in Oceanside. (and all the great fishing content as well)

    What recourse if any do you have when there’s there’s that kind of switch on what you were told and were expecting vs what actually transpired. Fishing is fishing but you spent your hard earned money and set aside that finite resource …time?
    Thanks for remembering those young men and women that gave all that they could give
    god bless their families

      It’s always the skippers call, or should be in my opinion. Current conditions may present opportunities or make some destinations not worth the boat ride. As example, our 8 day always has the Alijos Rocks as a possible destination. But we only hit that area about 1/3 of the time due to conditions. Being at Guadalupe when the wind is blowing isn’t a great option. The longer the trip the more options for finding willing fish. For this trip it wasn’t the skippers call from my understanding. Regardless, it was a wonderful time on the water, we just needed more willing fish. Not a great moon phase, current slack, water temps all over the place with both warmer and colder areas, odd mix. Crew was great, as expected.

    Wow. I always thought that if you didn’t have your paperwork straight at the dock they would just leave you I would not of been a happy camper if I paid to go to Guadalupe and I went to the Outer Banks instead great video anyways thank you

    NO PASSPORTS? NO GO!!! Mark, I have super respect for you. I still buy from you. However....if I'm on that trip, and I've done everything required, but, 2 dudes can't get their shit together, bumping us from the Lupe???
    I take my shit, and get off the boat before departure.
    I pay for a lure trip? I REFUSE to pay $3,000 + to fish areas I can fish on day boats.
    Just my take.
    Hoping to be back in your shop next August.

      I do not disagree at all, it was a disappointment to all of us. Two jerks, first timers on our charters, cost 26 other guys the opportunity to fish Guadalupe and that experience could not be made up the following year since the island was closed. Andy and Linda made a bad call, the guy who created the problem was a manipulating dick who thought he was something special. Couldn't do much about it once we left the dock, should have been taken care of at the office if that was all there was to it. In over 20 years chartering the Rooster, this was the first such disappointment I've had with boat or crew. In retrospect, I should have been less polite and more unreasonable as chartermaster, so blame also goes in my direction. Lessons learned...

    Should have kicked the 2 people without the passport off the trip. Fishing the local waters on a 5 day trip is unexcusable!!! I hope you make it crystal clear the next time. No passport...don't even go.

    • @CharkBaitUSA

      The boat has the responsibility, and they do require, a copy of passport for these types of trips. Honestly, I do not know the full story and I believe there must be a back-story to this situation. Makes about as much sense as a 40 cycle PCR test for covid confirmation - meaning, no sense whatsoever. Both the areas fished and the FMM permit left me scratching my head. The skipper and crew were 100%, the cold/covid testing prior to getting on the boat and the locations fished left me wondering what was going on back at the office.

    If I paid good hard earned money to go on a trip , to a designated area , and some yahoos didn't get their passports together....and you altered our trip , because of them....I would be so pissed ! I'm not going to where the prime tuna spot is ....because of those idiots. I. have to admit I'd never ever ride your boat again and would tell my friends that too. That was extremely poor judgement on your part to do that. Can't believe you did that.

      We were disappointed, and most of us thought we knew the person (involved 2 guys reportedly but one was the pushy self centered jerk) who created the issue. The Rooster got the message clearly, will never happen again, NEVER. However, the guys aboard made the most of the situation, fished hard and there was a return for those efforts. Always lessons learned on these trips, this time the office did the listening and learning.

      @fishoff4283 3 роки тому

      I tried that back in July. Submitted the form and waited. Apparently the expedite was not accepted. They wouldn't let me reapply for expedite when I called and told me to call back 2 weeks before travel for an in-person appointment at a passport office which is not a sure thing. I have even written my congressman to see if they can help.

    Giving returning fishermen preferential treatment in the kite is like telling new people that even though they paid the same amount for their trip, they're second class citizens and don't deserve to be treated fairly. And you can't argue with that, because they're NOT being treated fairly. And I'm disappointed to hear you think otherwise.

    • @marksmith4452
      @marksmith4452 3 роки тому +2

      “Fairly” is subjective. Depends upon ones perspective. I expressed both sides of situation, and in truth all major LR boats go right down the signup list. This is quite appropriate, and for our charters while everyone gets a free tee and some tackle, the first 20 who sign up for trips also get a gift card from CharkBait. There’s an incentive for early signups, helps the boat plan and reduces some risk of a trip which isn’t sold out. Who assumes that risk sir? Many anglers fish the same charters each year, they are the foundation of the LR fleet I’m fine with the “regulars” fairly receiving some priority treatment. It’s these early payers who actually help the boats cash flow thru the offseason.

    • @ballsofrock
      @ballsofrock 3 роки тому +2

      It's one of the reasons why people sign up on the same trip every year. To get a better tackle storage area and get a better shot at getting a kite fish along with a few other perks. Some brag about having a lower number. Getting rewarded for dedication is just another reason to sign up early and keep going on these trips. Put in your time and be rewarded. It's like if you work for a company for years and the new guy comes in making the same amount of money as you. Is that fair? I think not, they didn't put in their time. That's how you keep dedicated people. It's almost like a form of appreciation IMO. I 100% agree with Mark.
