Are you completely out of your minds? "A Hole In The Head" #36!!!? An all star cast, a touching comedy, heartwarming plot, funny one liners, widowed dad, young son relationship and among other things, absolutely perfect performances by versatile, well known actors and introduction of Eddie Hodges. Still emotional 51 years later from this brilliant, obviously underrated gem as illustrated by only 12 previous comments and possibly decision makers too unfamiliar with the times to appreciate it's authenticity!
Actually 61 years, but who's gonna know?
I have given myself a slap on the wrist for disrespecting 'A Hole in the Head', I hope thats sufficient punsihment. The highest rating I could find for that film was 6.3 at IMDB. And now that I'm curious I will look out for it next time its on TV. Cheers.

Can't believe such a fast response. Alot of your take on this movie may be influenced by either your age or familiarity with not only Sinatra of course, but also people like Edward G. Robinson, Thelma Ritter, Eleanor Parker, Keenan Wynn and a young Carolyn.
References to old time boxers, as well as Marilyn Monroe are cleverly thrown in. I'm a Sinatra fan (acting more than singing) and appreciate most of his performances, highlighted by "Eternity" "Golden Arm",
also with Eleanor Parker),
etc. but have always felt this mostly comedy, with serious affection, gambling,
family concerns and above all lovable Uncle Mario's comedic Robinson portrayal
(who doesn't laugh at the chair?) all contribute to the
underserved lack of respect for this movie. Also add in the brilliant debut of Eddie Hodges and the fitting placement of "High Hopes", not to mention the desk clerk's contribution (what the heck is his name?) I, not alone in my opinion, give it a
9. Great performance by Frank and all the rest. Joy Lansing didn't hurt either.

Frank Sinatra is my favourite singer of all time. I have seen 38 Sinatra movies. The lowest ranked film I have seen is The Kissing Bandit at 45. Most of the films I am missing have been unavailable to me. However, I've never tried watching The Man With a Golden Arm and I found The Pride and the Passion too boring to finish. I may try again. Top of my to-see list is Miracle of the Bells.

38 out of 45 is excellent, I've seen 20. Favorites include - On the Town, High Society, Ocean's 11, Manchurian Candidate and From Here to Eternity. Good ole Frank. Nice update. Seems writing our UMR Frank page...that I have been tracking down more Frank movies to watch. Going through our old comments...my tally was 10....wonder how much better it is 3 plus years later. #43 Marriage on the Rocks...ok comedy....near the end of the Rat Pack #39 Lady in Cement....his last good movie? #32 First Deadly Sin...blink and you miss Bruce Willis in his first screen appearance #29 Pride and Passion...another period piece Grant disaster #27 None But The Brave...good war flick #24 Can Can....fun movie...good MacLaine performance #18 Pal Joey...Frank at his peak #14 List of Adrian Messenger...cameo role #13 Robin and the 7 Hoods....fun movie #11 Von Ryan's Express....good but not as good as The Great Escape #10 Anchors Aweigh...Sinatra against character #9 Take Me Out To the Ball Game...very little baseball in this one #8 Ocean's 11....classic...fun...what an ending #7 High Society...did not like this one at all...give me Philadelphia Story. #5 Guys and Dolls....one of the few musicals I like....Brando ain't bad in this one #3 On The Town...the best Kelly/Sinatra movie #2 Manchurian Candidate...good movie...have not seen in years #1 From Here To Eternity...Frank's Oscar movies.....so that is now 18...not too bad of an increase. Hello Martin, well this system works out the best rated movies regardless of star performance. If I had a Sinatra fanatic working with me and informing which of these films featured his best work the rankings might have been different but not by much. I reckon Man with the Golden Arm, Manchurian Candidate and From Here to Eternity would still be in the top 5.
