    It’s so true what Doctorow says - willful ignorance to NOT know the reality! I come from an upper middle class family in the Chicago area. My father was from Iran and constantly talked on the lines you speak of in the Middle East. We're grown with children. Neither of my bothers and one sister want to be aware of what I share. They call it propaganda and they "don’t want information about things they can’t do anything about." My response is, how do you know you can’t do anything if you don’t have the information? I receive fewer invitations from them - which is fine.
    But I do understand it. It's painful to really digest the information even though I was schooled by my father on the duplicity of the US's role foreign policy and mentally, I agreed. I really digested the wag the dog reality just recently; I watched an interview with Michael Hudson by Ben Norton and it seemed irrfutable. Like a kick in the gut. Very disturbing. Certainly not an excuse to keep one's head in the sand. But I do get it. It's painful to realize that everything around you is a lie. The US is in for a rude awakening.
    And I so appreciate your work and guests like Doctorow.

      I am still unconvinced about his arguments though. What is the point of a lobby then. Why do rich zionists waste money foiling elections of this coincides with US policy? Also, what the US is supporting today is actually diminishing its dominance in the world so how does that help the US. Like if you want forever wars why not keep it around simmer like they have been doing it for 76 yrs. I mean they almost has Iran with the nuclear deal only to have Trump tear it up. What he doesn’t understand is that the US govt is for sale whoever has money can buy the power of the US givt and its military industrial complex. That is why US policy is schizophrenic.

    The critique of Mearsheimer is valid - he’s called a lot of things exactly right, including highlighting the risk that pushing NATO ever eastward would risk conflict.
    But his framework for understanding the world is entirely steeped in the last 300 years or so of western dominance and before then the European experience. In his world every country wants to be a hegemon. But China has a thousands of years long history as a single state, and has not exhibited the kind of behaviour of relentless expansionism and extension of hegemony that the US has or prior western empires have.

A country with good education from primary to university level, thousands of very innovative entrepreneurs,... where citizens have the last word at the ballot box on any subject if a referendum or popular initiative is launched.
    In Germany and France, for example, the political elite believes that citizens are not mature enough to make decisions, to live a direct democracy. These elites are largely wrong.

    No, he is wrong about Mearsheimer. No mention of the Israeli lobby? are you joking me? and he also mentioned Brezinsky. But Brezinsky was against the invasion of Iraq and he said it is not in the interest of the US. But we all know it was in the interest of Israel and this is why the US invaded. The US has not used Israel for anything, it is US soldiers who died in Iraq and Syria not Israeli ones.

    • @user-tg3tj2nq6v
      @user-tg3tj2nq6v 3 дні тому +3

      And one more point that Professor Mearsheimer makes. If it is in the US interest to follow the policy that is following on Israel then Israel wouldn't need the Israeli lobby. You need a lobby only when you think that the policy maker would make a different decision from the one that you prefer. What we have here is that the lobby has captured the policy maker.

    Prof. Mearsheimer stated in his book that the German military is more powerful than the Russian military. That was quite surprising to me.

    Every person needs a historical perspective on issues to have a remote chance as to why events that are completely contradictory are happening now. Thank you for this all-too-rare Ha ha moment Professor.

    Completely agree as during my PhD, I was required to have 'speaking knowledge' of other language to complete the degree. This changed in the late 80s, removing the language requirement. A great deal changed, making it shorter and easier for anyone to obtain a higher degree.

    I think that the criticism of Sachs has more to do with the USA not following his advice to support Russia in reforming the economy and blaming him for this failure, than the failure (or not) of his methods themselves to help reform the Russian economy.

    Hello! Thanks for this interview. However, my opinion is that regardless of the winner of the 🇺🇸 election, there will be no change in policy. I see Mr Trump and Ms Harris as opposite sides of the same coin. Our government policy seems to have been co-opted by " think tanks" and bureaucrats that are now acting on behalf of the government. You are absolutely correct when you state that citizens do not want to hear the truth. Let's shut the door on such unpleasantness.

    I think both ideas on the relationship between the US & Israel are correct if you consider their relationship as a symbiotic relationship. In such a relationship, the two parties exercise some level of influence on the other.

    37:42 Prof Sachs, I don't think 🤔 he is evil. OTHERS in the US didn't want to help Russia. The BEST way to get back at the others is to WIN BIG. Bravo Russia.
