So excited to get the notification for this video today! Heavy perfumes with lots of oud are not my cup of tea- I find my tastes align very closely with yours. Thanks so much for always having such a great variety of videos- I am always able to find great videos on your channel when I’m searching for fragrance topics.
I might be confused, but aren't niche perfume houses solely dedicated to making perfumes, rather than designer houses which make other things such as clothing, jewelry, etc?
Yes, in the case of Lalique, they're actually a glass making company which later on started making perfumes, they technically don't fall into the niche category because they make glass.
Hm well it isn’t actually the designer brands who make perfumes. D&g, Versace etc have their perfumes made and distributed by cosmetics companies like Unilever
Designer fragrance means it’s under a design house that also has other product offerings besides perfume (shoes, bags, jewelry, clothing, etc). Niche perfumes are made by perfumers that specialize in only perfume. They tend to have more latitude in creativity, and are less bound by desire for mass-appeal. There are also private lines (Maison Lancome, Maison Dior, Armani Prive, etc) by design houses, that people tend to mix with niche due to their exclusivity and creativity, but it’s really more of a third category.
I've got "Orchidée Vanille" from Van Cleef & Arples. This is my first niche fragrance, and I love it !! This is a perfect vanilla, gourmand, not too strong, and so elegant. love it, even if I'm quite young😌😌😌
@@ChrissyLove All the "Collection extraordinaire" from Van Cleef and Arples are super good perfumes btw ! You should test them all, there are some really beautiful ones 😊 My other favorite is "California Rêverie", it is truely amazing. This collection is sooo original, and "easy to wear" perfumes. In the sense that evzn if they're nich, they're not hard to understand, hard to like, etc. They're original, complex, built so well with exteemely good quality, but you can wear them easily. I could talk about this collection forever, so I'll stop there 😅. I didn't test Kayali Vanilla, but I should, it sounds great ! And if you like vanilla, you should test "Milk Musk" EDT from Molton Brown. I didn't test the EDP one, but the EDT is a sweet vanilla milk, great for everyday, love it !😉
Great video! I am very curious about another niche house called: Essential Parfums. I heard great things about Divine vanille and Rose magnetic. Maybe you can make a video about this house when you get the chance to try it?
Love it, just subscribed. I have a perfume subscription where I can choose a perfume each month to try and I love your chanell for inspiration! Gonna try some Niche perfumes!
Hi,Soki. From germany.I got Lalique Soliel on Valentines day from my husband. It's stunning bottle and beautiful smell.I really love it.Now waiting for spring and summer.😊 Thanks for your vdo.🥰
I have the floral street wonderland peony - love so many of the ones you have or love. Love replica range too - my fav is also springtime in the park! I want to get Soleil - the others are a bit out of my price range 💞
A year or so ago Sephora US had a fragrance sampler from Berdoues, and there were several scents I loved, but especially Assam of India. I'm on my second bottle of it. And when I was in Sicily several of the hotels featured the brand Ortigia Sicilia. The packaging is beautiful and the scents are lovely. They sell several sampler kits which I highly recommend trying.
@@GlitteryGossip21 it's unique and different from anything else I've smelled. To me it's sweet and floral and smells expensive and classy. But like with any scent except my fave and signature I couldn't wear it daily I have to be in the mood. But it is a real treat to wear it. The bottle is divine also.
Hi Sophie! If you would like to try another slightly sour rhubarb fragrance, Honour Woman by Amouge has that note mixed with a bouquet of white flowers and a bit of subtle spice. I love the tartness of it with the creamy tropical tuberose. Loved the video xx
Interesting that you include Lalique, and also Van Cleef & Arpels here as niche houses. I do consider Lalique more on the niche side of things, and Encre Noire is one of my favorite fragrances.
Neither house is niche because they make other products other than perfume. The reason a brand is considered niche is because they dedicate solely to making perfumes.
@@katycanino1566 Yes that's the nominal take on it. But some consider Guerlain designer, even though it just makes fragrances, so should be niche. Designers seems to be more whats available in dept stores rather than those who make fragrances and other things. So more related to the distribution channels and scale, rather than to what they manufacture
@@raulsaavedra709 actually Guerlain is a designer brand as they also make cosmetics (makeup). Yes, categorically niche is also what you explain as they are usually not readily available as designer fragrances would be. They also tend to be much more expensive because of their exclusivity and ingredients used of a higher quality (most times).
I didn't realize Van Cleef & Arpels was niche but I do love Orchidee Vanille. I remember being awed by their jewelry store when I was in London for college. Penhaligons is one I want to get into!
Dear Soki! Relying upon your taste, I tested Roses Rouge and fell in love with it! It's gorgeous! Is it possible to find something similar to it? It's a special occasion scdnt for me and I don't want to buy 75 ml)) I would be very grateful for your advice!
I own a vintage First by van cleef and arpel, you should read the reviews of it on fragrantica. But my very fav vintage which is awfully addictive is Tabu by Dana, it has the most exquisite coca cola, powdery spicy heavenly drydown. The vintage Tabus are much more stronger than the modern reformulated ones. I have a couple of backups and a shower gel. I love Tabu so much I wear it when I'm down and need comfort and I keep it on my bedside table and wear it to bed often.
Back when Van Cleef and Arpels Midnight in Paris was super cheap, I picked up a bottle and oh my god. Cannot believe how much people are selling it for now. I savored a sample of Amouage Sunshine for years until I found a bottle for a reasonable price on the discount sites. On me it's this juicy, kind of spicy apricot. Some other niche fragrances I love are A La Nuit by Serge Lutens (gorgeous jasmine that reminds me of a botanical garden), Penhaligon's Orange Blossom (does what it says on the tin), Diptyque Eau Duelle (I'm wearing it right now - beautiful vanilla) and Frapin 1270 (pineappley booze, technically labeled a men's fragrance but eh).
I tried Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire Orchidee Vanille and I was so disappointed. I could barely detect any scent on me, and what little I did smell was gone in 10 minutes. :(
Are van Cleef & Arpels and Lalique niche brands? They are easily available her at Douglas and Ici Paris XL. Haven’t try that many niche perfumes but the once I love are Xerjoff Apollonia and 4160 tuesdays The sexiest scent in the world 🥰
@RoXxXy Xerjoff have a fair number of absolute beauties, but pssst don't tell her the prices! As for 4160 Tuesdays, this quintessentially modern day English house is worthy of mention for Doe In The Snow, the world's Officially Most Cutest Name Perfume. But I promise not to lower the tone by mentioning (the unisex!!!) Tart's Knicker Drawer!
You can get Lalique in South Africa fairly cheap...annoyingly always in 100ml sizes. I was so attracted to the Lalique Lalique bottle and it had a lot of jasmine in, my favourite floral, so bought it blind. Unfortunately, this is the only perfume I own that actively makes me nauseous. Have this dilemma now where I still love the bottle but hate the perfume. I am fascinated with Soleil but can only get it online and don't want to chance it.
What’s your opinion on FM perfumes? They’re quite controversial being an MLM but it’d be fun to see your comparisons between their dupes and the real things. :)
I’ve tried a few of them - some smell very much like the original but doesn’t last as long (even though they say it has a stronger concentration of perfume in them). I have the Chanel eu Tendre dupe - smells nothing alike and doesn’t last as long Dior - Joy - exactly the same Dior - Sauvage for men - really good too So it’s pretty hit and Miss - but you can order samples - so try before you buy 🤙🏼 Would be nice if you could do a review please Soki 💞
Yeah I have 6 of their perfumes & mainly buy them just for the fragrance itself rather than because it’s a dupe. I’ve found that many on their Jo Malone ones are exact but I haven’t smelled the originals of the others I have. I think it’d just be nice to know if the ones I’m using do actually smell like the real thing without me having to go out and smell them haha. :D
I love it when companies do trial sets. I'm currently working through a set of Frederic Malle perfumes. Next I wish to buy a set of Amouage perfumes.
