Ivan was just a prototype tho, it was never meant to be the protagonist, because they always wanted a normal looking guy for the part, the reason Ivan doesn't do that is because it was made without that idea in mind by the designer lol
Also, you forgot to mention how Alpha Barney was an enemy rather than an ally, it wasn't until the AI was more capable that they realized they could do friendly and helpful NPCs
