Robert, you had a paid off truck in the Mack, when you finance a truck, Collision and Comprehensive is automatically needed to protect the lien holder of the Truck. The insurance company dropped the ball and the new finance company should've identified this lack of coverage. You were right when you said you miss the freedom of a paid off truck as high insurance is making a lot of owner operators park their truck. In today's economy, you don't want a lot of debt because of uncertainty.
That's why he needs to just get direct customers. Ever since I went to direct customers. And I do not use loadboards anymore I have had greatest Last five years of financial income. I have local contracts and don't have to work nights or weekends anymore. And I make way more than I did when I was running over the road.

Amur is a weird company over the insurance. I went round and round with them over insurance on a truck I was buying. They required $55000 coverage which wasn’t an issue. But wanted the policy written for 1 year. Now normally not an issue either cause the company I’m leased to has policy written for a year. But the new policy wasn’t due for another 2 months and they aren’t writing a single policy for a year then doing the whole company. I almost walked away then someone called and said they would approve the 2 months remaining so long as I sent the new one in soon as I got it. Honestly I haven’t had any issues from them since. Been just over a year.

Many people can give you advice do this, or don’t do that but its all learning, I’ve driven over 20 yrs, and still learning everyday. Your a good driver and really good at troubleshooting, you would of been just fine in the old days, safe travels and have a happy thanksgiving 🍽
Just a thought. Now that you have the truck and what not Maybe go to your bank and see if they will refinance your loan through them. Sometimes they say you have to wait 6 months ect., but at least if you go ask and go through the process you will have an option, and you may be able to do it online like on your 34. But i would have a point of contact to kinda feel things out though. And in this industry options are good.

Depends what you consider good money. Most of them make over 100k/yr. Not if your Mack is parked half the time, but generally they make 100k. That's not a bad wage for one guy, but it's pretty low for a family. I make about 120k a year, and if I depended on an APU unit to keep my living space comfortable, I could definitely plop down $13k for 5+ years of dependable comfort. The ole mack drained them dry I'm thinking. It's too bad.
Amur is a horrible company! I’m still having issues with them. My truck blew an engine, went to auction. I paid the balance. Amur still put a repo on my credit. So anytime I buy a commercial vehicle. I have to prove it was settled. They refuse to remove it from my credit. 🖕🏻 Amur

Robert, I would also suggest you find out how much an hour of idle time and/ or APU run time equals miles driven. I know that the last 2 police cars I was issued (Crown Vics) we had to calculate 1 hour of idle time being equivalent of 33 miles driven. It doesn't seem like much but it really does affect your true fuel MPG
Hours are more important than actual mileage of a truck. Been a Mechanic for 20+ years and I can't count how many times I've seen people buy trucks with

My insurance went from $5,700 a year ago to $16,600 last week. Never had a claim in 40 years. Another word for insurance is extortion.

Robert, sorry about the Insurance crap but when you Deal with Banks and Loans that's the way things go most of the time!! they just can't get it right with each other. Seems like every time I buy a new Vehicle it's a mess!! Calm down it will work out I always call my insurance company and ask them what it's going to cost for the Vehicle before I buy it. Believe me if the finance company wants to know where the truck is, it’s got an inboard GPS it takes a few seconds to figure it out

That's good MPG overall. What was the Mack getting? I bet the finance company lady stuck a Airtag on the truck to keep track of it. You can find those.
Sounds like making a little inconvenience a heart attack situation. The fact is, if you didn't have that insurance then it is your fault (likely even planned). If I had to take a wild guess I'd bet that the Mack was listed on your ins as your SPARE. Which could only be done if you had more than 1 truck. Maybe a spare to a hotshot pick up, cheaper that way!!! Honestly though, if it's so rough that a few hundred a month for proper and road legal insurance gets your blood boiling you should reconsider driving. You seem like you could find other things to do that are less stressful.

Buddy my two cars cost me $700 for insurance it’s inflation unfortunately that’s what the world is coming to sooo for you million dollar coverage for 1,400 a month isn’t bad what’s so ever that covering your truck trailer and your load
When it says No Animals it normally means no animals outside of the truck if you have them.
That truck is not a dog at all. It must have factory settings on everything you need to go have that truck reprogrammed. The reason you are getting decent mileage is because they have everything turned down on that truck.. If you are wanting more speed and want that truck to perform, then go have everything dialed in. But then you will see your fuel. Mileage is going to drop like a rock but the truck will be a ton faster. I have owned many of the same exact setup. And all of my trucks would have smoked the shit out of that mack that you had, But you pay a price for having everything dialed up by notch. You will not get more than six mile per gallon.

I can read times are tough over there and can read like other say just keep doing as you are and maybe so many will fall by the way side then a much better choice with less guys seeking freight. You will be surprised how many are just parking up and leaving from this down turn . You guys are great at your what you do then you like others will shine when it is time. All of the fuel mileage Nannies that Lenard had on when they ordered the truck might still be on. Like tork limiting by gear and fuel percentage by gear. All can be shut off by dealer and laptop.
This is why im least with company. Ive been with Land star 24 yrs. I seen so many owner operator leaving there Authority cause #1 insurance to high and #2 most loads not factory. And list go on and on. Your Finance company want you on there insurance policy from what i hear !!
Road maintenance is becoming a huge issue for the states. All the revenue is generated from gas tax. Gas tax rate hasn't been raised in decades yet the number of vehicles and fuel efficiency has skyrocketed. More vehicles and less tax generated per vehicle leads to poor roads.

Go to your local bank and borrow the money or is your credit that poor. And then get quotes from several insurance companies on rates.
Robert you had liability only on the Mack and are being required to carry full coverage on a financed truck! Your insurance will go up! You’re lucky you didn’t wreck it in the meantime as you’d owe the finance company and get nothing from the insurance company! Your insurance company dropped the ball for not having you properly covered on a financed truck! They just want their asset protected….its business like you hauling loads!

When I had trucks the insurance on the actual truck was called physical damage and they would use your estimate of the trucks value or the finance amount,if it was paid for they would pay actual cash value,basically what they thought the truck was worth. If the truck is financed you will have to carry full coverage insurance.

Sounds like you have a lot of experience. So do you not want to pay your bills or can't you pay your bills? Bankruptcy is a definite option for folks who are really down financially and have no other options. Like all things when money is involved the lender will to pass on the cost of the debt to future borrowers who pay their loans. But that doesn't' mean anything to some folks as long as they can get over on someone.
