Instructions worked well for Model Y as well. Mounting plate has a nub on the bottom edge which can be visually aligned with the center vertical bar on the grille. No measuring needed.
Thanks, great job, great video. This helps with my angst on how to get it done. Plus I have run out of excuses for waiting 7 months to finally put mine on (replacement bumper, extraordinarily wet So Cal weather, etc.)!
I just did mine. If you push it all the way up so the bottom is tight under the bumper (at the top of the grill area), it won’t fit the curve correctly. Mine is on there because the top is stuck on and the bottom of the side strips, but you can see light behind it. It’s not sitting in the curve correctly. You need to test ahead of time the gap that should be on the bottom in order to fit the curve correctly (might not butt up to the bumper tightly is my guess). Either way it’s on there. I used adhesive promoter so I don’t think it’s coming off.
The instructions show that you pull both the top and sides part way initially (took me a while to figure out what those pics meant). But the trickiest part to me is how high or low to place the bottom of the plate holder, but unfortunately, there's no mention of it in this video and the image isn't close enough to see. With that strong adhesive, I'm thinking you only get one chance and it's going to be stuck, possibly too high or low or crooked.
Great video...I'm going to try mine soon. I think I'll use some type of removable tape to help guide me with the center line - have you had any issues?
I went to take my driving test in my moms Tesla and the jackass guy said I had to reschedule bc there's no front license plate but he already didn't like my mom bc she was angry someone cut us in line. She refuses to put it on now but could I take the plate off after a day without it taking the paint off? It is actually a wrap.
The Tesla supplied front plate holder are junk. I installed it as described and the next morning the plate holder was on the floor! There wasn't even a license plate on it yet! I have no confidence that these double sided tape will hold it for long term, so I will be force to buy one that attaches to the grill.
Hi there. I don't plan on removing the front license plate (maybe ever!). There are known methods to remove strong adhesive (do a quick web search). Good luck!
Never ever use dish detergent on your cars paint! What's going to protect the paint under the lip from the bracket, since it's touching the paint? Vibration will cause the bracket to scratch the paint away.
Hi Dan- Thanks for your advice! I used a very small "dot" of dish soap with plenty of warm water only to clean the surface under the bracket, to allow for a good bond. I do NOT recommend this as a regular cleaning method. In fact, this is the only time I have used that type of soap on the car. I use Wash & Wax all and other well known automotive cleaning/protecting washes to clean it regularly. You make a good point about vibration; I will look in to placing a piece of small rubberized padding in between!
Chapman Tech anything you put in between there will still have an abrasive effect to the paint, over time. I wish Tesla had designed into the nose a recessed plate area.
Dish Soap is NO BUENO. It eats the clear coat. Never use Dish soap on your cars. Ever. You're better off with rubbing alcohol or even just water and a squeegee.

Glad to hear it!
Thank you! Installing mine now :-)
What kind of screws were used? Tesla didn’t provide me the screws 🙃
Fantastic I just did my thanks for the video and your time
Thanks.. The front plate holder that came with my Model Y didn't have the instructions yours did. I wasn't sure which way was up!
I hope you got it securely fastened. Glad to help!
Thank you. My license plate holder did not come with the instructions on the back.
That's one loud ass mail truck.
Don't use paper towels on the exterior--use a microfiber cloth instead.
What size are the screws they provided?
years from now when moving this piece, is it going to destroy your paint?
There’s a small mark on the mounting plate in the center . Line that up with the center vertical part of the grill and you’re golden

I totally would've left my front plate off, if I could've! Enjoy your Tesla!
Lol…me too. My last one was that they ran out of mounting brackets. Time to get this fugly thing on there.
Would you use this plate holder again?
Do you have a link to it on Amazon?
Have you checked your trunk?
@@JackF99 we bought it used and the trunk was empty.
I bought mine used and it was in the left cubbyhole. However, I know sometimes used has missing parts. I was missing a Key Card personally.
Awww u look so happy. Proud of u
Would the adhesive ever wear out eventually though?
Owned the car 4 years, it's still holding steady!
Can you off center this?
Did it hook to the grill? I got the 2020 model 3 - the bracket is not long enough to hook to the grill....
Or it’s all hold up by the tape? Thx!
Strong adhesive stickers, I think 3M.
Thanks for being my guinea pig! 👍
Sure thing! Have fun.
I find that offensive.

Amazing tip as I prep to do this lol thank you!

There is plastic sticking out on the bottom edge that can be aligned and tucked under the bumper shouldn‘t be too hard.
Did the car come with that adhesive mount?
Yes, included.

Thanks for the nice words! Let me know how it goes. After ~five months, the bracket is holding up well.

Does this come with the car?
Front license plate mount comes with the car.
Thx!!!
Nice. Thanks.
Most welcome.
Where did you get that front license plate holder?
Hi Siddhesh. It came with my Model 3 (included in 2018).
Link for that plate ?
It is Tesla OEM - check their website.
Yup, I messed mine up. it flew off and almost hit the car behind me.
i was about to asked if this was possible lol

After nearly 3 years, my front license plate holder has remained securely fastened to my bumper. We'll see how it holds going forward.
Did you clean the area?
any links?
License plate mount is Tesla OEM.
Damn, what a beautiful handsome bro. Sorry did this video involve a license plate?
how do you take it off?

@@chapmantech7347 I don't plan on ever putting it on. Looks hideous.
@@InSaN3ViSioN You must be in a state that permits that. I'm in a state where it's required.
Thank you
make a video on removal?
If we move to a state where I can rid my Model 3 of the front bumper plate mount, I'll work on a new video.

I agree, it's not perfect/ideal. Must make do for now!
Is this true? I was told some detailers use Dawn to strip away the old wax before placing a new layer on.
my are GONE ALREADY!!!! who knows when it FELL OFF????????????
Never use dish detergent!
You don’t want to loose the wax coat.
Dish Soap is NO BUENO. It eats the clear coat. Never use Dish soap on your cars. Ever. You're better off with rubbing alcohol or even just water and a squeegee.
This is a terrible plate design tbh. Tesla makes awesome shit but this plate holder is crap. They should give the non stick grill holding version
don’t use dish soap on a car!!
FYI I used a miniscule amount on a tiny area. In general I agree with you - would advise against it.
