Why doesn't this band go to any away games?

They had 312 kids total in the band this year! Probably no where to put them in the bleachers.

Michael Hundley we've had bands with that many kids or more come to our home football games, and most school's West Aurora's size have decently-sized away bleachers. I've heard that the Allem Eagle Escadrille down in Texas goes to its varsity football team's away games with 700-800 members in its band. So yeah, they could definitely make it happen.

Interesting, as many years as I have attended football games at West High, I do not remember a single visiting teams marching band performing. I think every team that West Aurora plays has its own marching band. Looking at the I.H.S.A. rules for visiting marching bands, the rule states that each team would be allotted a maximum of 6 minutes per band to perform. I guess the School District and the band directors do not feel that it's enough time to load at least 6 buses full of kids and equipment and only be able to perform for 6 minutes. You could always contact the West Aurora band department. I just post amateur videos of my kid in the band. www.ihsa.org/documents/fb/2012-13/school-manual.pdf (PAGE 4)

Michael Hundley does West mainly play schools with highly competitive marching bands? I'm not in one, nor would I ever want to be, but one of my friends that's in one says that many of them don't go to away games because they'd have very late nights going home from the games and then very early mornings going to the Saturday contests. And sometimes in areas where there are a plethora of competing bands, the few bands that don't compete feel like it would be weird to be the only ones going to all the games. That's just my assumption, though.

I know this kinda a late reply, but no we are non competitive band ( I am in the band). We are what our director likes to call a public relations band, we only really preform at home football games, local parades, and the occasional school event. The only competition like thing we have done from the time i joined was a marching review this year. Otherwise only public events and out annual band trip. This year being Disney World!
