Dessouky has always had the talent to get to the top but hasn't reached his full potential because of his mental and emotional fragility. He finally overcame that at this event. Beating Gawad, Elias, Momen, and Farag in a row, all top 10 guys, was an absolutely phenomenal achievement and I hope he can keep this going. One of the most exciting and skillful players I've ever seen.
Yes, it should've been a let. Dessouky was the deserving winner overall though, in this match, I think. His squash was magnificent throughout the tournament.
i guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me.
For the most part I must commend both the referee and the video reviewing, most of the decisions were spot on but that call on game ball was shocking. The ball was so far past Dessouky he could only play it straight and that channel was totally cleared by Elias. Still, banger game! Amazing pace and retrievals
8:10 was imo clear from the ball. He jumped and elias came from the back. How can he see where elias is? Elias should’ve gone from his back and not go around him. Please correct me if I’m wrong
Great game. Strange stroke decision to me at 7-7, though. Elias lifts his racket up only when the ball is already past him, he would still have to move to the ball before being able to hit it properly. More or less the same at 11-12.
7-7 stroke looked right to me. I don’t think Desouki did anything intentionally wrong, and his movement would have been correct had has ball been deeper, but it looks like it didn’t go as deep as intended, and he wound up moving right into Elias’ line to the ball. The key is how deep the ball was. Just a little deeper, and it’s just a let, and deeper yet and it’s a no let, because Elias could have gone around the other way.
11-12 was different, because the ball was deep. I understand the reason for the let decision, although it looked to me to generous for Desouki who had gone the wrong way. I believe the video referee gave a let because the ball came well off the back wall, so in the final position Elias was in Desouki’s way, but it was a bit generous because Desouki made no effort to get to the ball. I don’t think the let was given because of the original interference, and had the length been better, the no let decision would have been upheld.
Dessouki stops and asks the referree to make a decision. Dessouki is saying he did not have access to the front wall i.e. if he had hit it, Elias was in the way. If the referee agrees then it is a stroke - point to Dessouki. If the referee thinks it is borderline i.e. that Elias was slightly in the way, the ball could probably have been played but Dessouki wasn't sure and stopped for safety reasons, then a let is awarded - replay the point. The commentators are saying that if Dessouki had moved quicker to the ball and then asked, it would have been a stroke. But because he waited until the ball was slightly past him it should only be a let. He waited so long, even a no let - point to Elias - was a possibility. As with a lot of squash decisions, the interpretations and nuances of the rules are many and the lack of consistency frustrating for players. It is part of the game that you must learn to accept, although in the heat of battle few of us manage it!
Both calls at the end of the game were bad for Elias, but the let call was particularly egregious. If that’s a let, you could get a let anytime you wanted by standing to the side of your opponent and yelling “let!” on literally any shot.
The referee basically lost control of the match. The player's lost confidence in the calls and had no idea how appeals were going to be called, started milking stroke opportunities from the scrappy fast paced play.
I think commentary should be neutral about the referee calls. Trying to think why certain decisions are called in a certain manner only creates unsettleness to fans.
just goes to show how subjective decisions can be. The commentators are former pros and know the game in and out, and if they can't come to the same conclusion as the video referee, it shows a flaw in the game

Agree 100%!!👍
Dessoukys explosiveness around the middle is unparalleled
Feel for Elias, he did some amazing retrieving on the last rally and then lost to a very dodgy stroke
Yes, it should've been a let.
Dessouky was the deserving winner overall though, in this match, I think.
His squash was magnificent throughout the tournament.
It's always great when John Williams does the commentary. Especially with Vanessa, they complement each other well
Totally agree

@Stetson Trent instablaster =)
7:26 he makes lunging backwards and straightening that ball look easy.
This was INSANELY good! Never seen Elias scamper on court like he did in this match!
that was super entertaining. Love both these players.
Great to think they've got another 10 years in them, too.👍
and they love you

Not even that, only a boast.
amazing squash, terrible video calls
That 6-5 rally was BANANAS
Please post a full match of Dessouky’s🙌🙌🙌
17:28 I like his smile at this time.
That rally at 5-6 though 😲
Very obviously doctored. Two VIDEO reviews got the wrong decision against Elias.
Sad refereeing. Unbelievable.
That really ending in 6 all was terrific
This is always a good matchup

I agree I thought it should have been a let, because Dessouky couldn't have known that Elias wasn't going to go around to his left.
Do they really play the Pink Panther song during reviews 🤣
Sometimes James Bond songs.
insane that skill level
I have no idea how 17:53 is a stroke
Yes, a very poor decision at game ball.
Yes he could have only hit a boast at best.
8:05 Come on...
14:16 ???
18:00 :/
evil dessouke is back.....so great

I would have said 'let' for both. 🤷♂️
Can someone explain the last point please
Dessouki stops and asks the referree to make a decision.
Dessouki is saying he did not have access to the front wall i.e. if he had hit it, Elias was in the way. If the referee agrees then it is a stroke - point to Dessouki.

@@splat4097 this is the best explanation to any question i have ever asked in my life😂😂😂
@@splat4097 Your explanation is right, only problem is the refs made a different call lol
Both calls at the end of the game were bad for Elias, but the let call was particularly egregious. If that’s a let, you could get a let anytime you wanted by standing to the side of your opponent and yelling “let!” on literally any shot.
Que robó ,tan descarado de los jueces en el segundo ser, le robaron el juego a Elías, en varias decisiones!!!!!!!
The referee basically lost control of the match. The player's lost confidence in the calls and had no idea how appeals were going to be called, started milking stroke opportunities from the scrappy fast paced play.
Does should not have got that point no let he the ball had gone him
Double hit
Really, there’s no difference at 7-7 and 8-10, and 2 totally different decisions, why?
this is why breakdancing is an Olympic sport and squash is not
I think because of the different placement?
Does should not have got a let Elias was still playing his shot it should have been no let
What happens when a gymnast becomes a squash player
8:25 so disrespectful towards referee, disgraceful behaviour by Dessouky
Amazing squash, Terrible reffing
More on the video ref than the actual match ref.
I think commentary should be neutral about the referee calls. Trying to think why certain decisions are called in a certain manner only creates unsettleness to fans.

My goodness, fans are so pathetic that they can't handle any disagreement because it would be "unsettling"?
Total crap refereeing
I don’t know what it is about dessouky but he gets the worst luck with decisions.
What do you mean? He won the game on a stroke where he could have only hit a boast.
