I really wished you had mentioned fan noise. You always used to include this in the power consumption section but you dont always do that now, its really important IMO.
mounting this on the back of a monitor that also has a hub so you don't need to reach around to plug anything in would be insanely clean

That is some pretty impressive performance out of such low wattage. I'm looking into building an SFF everything emulator and I was thinking of using a 5600x + 1650 GPU, but there's no way I can touch the power sipping ability of something like this.

Were you able to connect a wired keyboard to your mini PC? According to its manual, it seems like that the ALT mode usb c port only supports USB 3.0, which means you won't be able to connect USB 2.0 devices to it (e.g., keyboards, mouses).

Damn, the fact that this plays Forza 2 smooth is real impressive to me. I guess most of the slow downs have been emu related because we've seen 5XXX chips before with Forza 2 and they never really locked 60.

With this and the Xtend Touch V3 monitor with ALT Mode things are starting to fall in place. As soon as both are available for purchase in Europe I'll be making my move!
Even though this is basically obsoleted with the 6800U chipset now available, I'm continually impressed how much tech they can cram into such a small space and still have respectable temps.
90+C after 6 min isn't respectable Temps.
They needed to make sure it never hit thermal throttle limits for this to be worth anything.
When are the Ryzen 6800 or 6900 mini PCs coming? It looks like never...

@@swtgcx3589 keep in mind they've only been out for laptops just a few months ago so I would say within the next year or so. I myself can't wait to see what the competitors to the steam deck will be.

edit: If I owned a nice 4k display, I would be loath to jeopardize its factory PSU pairing it in "single cable mode" with as much power draw as the UM580. Maybe a small device doing 5V at a couple amps at most.

For a barebone system, taking current over pricing models, it is reasonable in comparison. A shame that some areas are not supported with power adapters connectors.

$440 for the barebone 5800H setup is actually alright. Desktop 5700G in Asrock DeskMini board will cost you $500-550, so this is undercutting that. Plus this mini PC has a lot more USB ports
The advantage of the deskmini are the amount of drives you can install. 2nvme and 2 sata drives is unteaches in this device class
Go with 5600g way cheaper, half the price of 5700g, in gaming 5-10fps different
@@FaridRudiansyah Definitely. In my experience, it's really never more than 5fps. And at its current price of $132 it's a steal imo. I paid $30 more than the above price a while ago and I'd still consider it a good buy at that price.
@@FaridRudiansyah if you want to compare 5600G to similar pc then look at UM560, 5600G+Deskmini wins or loses 10$ depending on local price.
Remember 5600G is a desktop processor, can be faster and more flexible to upgrade, not soldered.
A 6800H/HS with this setup would be amazing to get that RDNA 2 GPU and USB4. Hopefully we'll have some more Ryzen 6th gen mini-pc options towards the end of the year or early next year. As it is the 5800H in this system at 35W is VERY closely matched to a 5600G in both CPU and iGPU performance.
Same here, waiting on 6800U/H/HS mini PCs. No interest in these AMD 5th gen mini-pcs.

Another informative video, thank you. I love the form factor of this PC but would rather a version with the AMD 6800H APU and RDNA2 graphics. Vega Graphics is starting to show it age, and I am holding off buying a mini-PC until they are available with AMD 6000 series APUs. Such a device would be the ideal replacement for my ageing eighth gen Intel NUC with Intel Iris Plus graphics. I would even set it up to dual boot Windows 11 and Steam OS! I am looking forward to your review of Minisforum's new Neptune Series HX90G with AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX APU and RX6650M GPU when it becomes available!

FYI, HX90G is still 5900HX (not 6900) like the HX90, but "G" adds the discrete RDNA2 GPU.
For RPCS3 and Xenia.. that thing doesn't want more power, it wants more cooling.
Just ordered the exact same one, i am going to deploy a vpn on this thing and setup gaming servers. Pretty sure it can handle everything without any problems since i ordered 32gb so-dimm 3200mhz ram.

He uses wallpaper engine available through steam. They have all kinds of awesomeness.

I'm pretty leery about Minisforum now, my H31G shorted out for no apparent reason. Everything was crammed pretty tight in that enclosure and something was always rattling around, even after everything was snug tight. I prefer my DeskMini instead, a little more breathing room, essentially the same thing.
Did that rattling sound like a loose screw perchance?
@@asonetuh6094 no missing screws, it was something else in there. I RMA'd the little unit, it was a shame though, it was a decent little system when it had worked

I hope theres a huge pile of 4000 and 5000 series chips sitting in warehouses so in a couple years these get insanely cheap like dells with i5s.

Can’t wait till the 6 series APUs start hitting mini PCs. This is cool, but everyone in the know, knows what a jump the 6 series is from 5 so I can’t justify this purchase for myself yet till one of these companies release a 6 series APU or later

The HM90, in the bios, have 7 tdp options (10, 15, 25, 35, 45, 54, auto) to choose from. Does the UM580 (5800H) has them too?

Dota and league play at 1080p 60pfs or more with intel integrated graphics from 8 years ago, there's really not much point in benchmarking them.
Is there room for thicker (15mm) drive in the 2.5in HDD slot?
