Soon as I saw Cecil B DeMille I clicked on it! Beautiful, I love the stories in old movies and the cinematography. Susan Hayward! Thank you, it was a beauty ❤
Oh, me too. But now when I see Susan Hayward in a movie, I always think of Steve Hays's "Tired Old Queen at the Movies" channel. He does a wonderful Susan Hayward 😉
Awesome movie….never seen this one before, great story and great Actors/Actresses….thanks for sharing….love watching these movies more than what’s showing in today’s films….HIGH 5….👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good castingin this movie. You never get tired of CECIL D. DeMille. I guess Johne Wayne got 2nd billing because he died in the movie... Personally I think Miss Goddard should've been first...
It's been a very long time since I saw this movie. Thank you for showing it. ❤ Great award winning actors, great love story and dramatic action, better production than the computerized garbage made today.
Ray Milland was superb in the part so was Susan Haywood but Paulette overacted, and was below par in some scenes (early days movie) Surprise surprise John Wayne was not the hero.who gets the girl.Riveting movie.
One of the 8 movies that John Wayne died in, with another leaving his fate to question. He had the girl and got the ship he wanted to Captain, so I don't get why he ran it into a reef, sacrificing everything???
Because he thought it will be taken away from him, King fooled him and he was desperate. He also wavered about his girl, thinking she might just like that other fellow, perhaps more than him. He lost his foothold and when it happened that evil guy, King was there putting ideas in his head. And he was stupid enough not to talk with his rival, for it could have been easily cleared up. He also should have not wavered about his girl.Sometimes men are stubborn and they ask no questions but go on fears or assumptions. He did that. And he destroyed everything even becoming a murderer unaware of the fact that the girl hid on his ship.
Actually more: Wake of the Red Witch, Reap the Wild Wind, The Fighting Seabees, The Sands of Iwo Jima, The Alamo, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Cowboys, The Shootist
Young gal's too young to be going bald. Top of her head shows hair thinnin. Guess she could get piece outta black beards beard and use it too cover the bald spot.
He was exempted from service due to age and family. He was 34yrs old when the U.S.A. entered WWII. He protested and eventually received a 1A classification making him eligible for the draft. Mr.Wayne was never drafted.
Always enjoyed this Film as a kid. It had grand adventure, beautiful and gutsy women, dastardly scoundrels, underwater hijinks and the zombie-like Lamb. Just don't mention the Slaves. Oh and for the uninitiated, Orcas swim in Pods. Not schools.
The opening narrative about 'wreckers' is true. In her book "Follow the Drum", Teresa Viele, wife of a US Army officer, recounted the encounter her ship had with the 'wreckers." Night was falling when the troop ship carrying the regiment dropped anchor among the reefs in the Keys, on its way to Texas during the 1850s. The captain not wanting to run aground. Knowing the waters he had guards posted with instructions to call him and the regiment's colonel if wreckers were sighted. Sure enough, first light showed a fleet of about a dozen boats making for the ship, each boat fully manned. As the lead boat drew close to the ship, a man called out to the captain, if he needed help. Prior to the arrival of the boats the colonel had lined the sides with infantry with loaded muskets but out of sight. When the 'wrecker' boat drew up against the ship and the men attempted to board, the infantry stood up and surprised them. The ship's captain called out that he didn't need their help and get away from my ship. The ship continued to its destination after the 'wreckers' sailed away empty handed.
Totally enjoyed this movie. Oddly, never even heard of it. And, very surprised that i didn't even recognize Susan Hayward! One of those films i'll watch many, many times. Thank you SO much!
I enjoyed the film, I would rather not put politics and clichés in there nor would I think of political correctness on the characters. I simply take it for what it was. With all this talk of political correctness and so called tolerance there is a terrible bullying going around in the world, and that is now pretending to protect certain people's liberty to do or say things while discriminating those who may disagree. And it went full circle the other way around. This world has always been harsh unjust to people of all sorts, the crooks and the wicked had their way most of the time, most people were browbeaten and treated badly, the privileged allowed to do what they wanted, so I hate this talk of this, in certain comments. I watch a film to enjoy it and not to judge it by today's ethics. In fact, I find it ridiculous to talk of the morals and the ethics the way people understand it today, because this world is just as bad as that one was. Hypocrisy has not changed, and it is still a bad world. Only people see other things bad and other things good than they did before.
Thank you for this great movie. It's hard to find these lost gems. I enjoy many of the actors and the cinematography is spectacular for it's time and even now. There are a lot of films that are just that, just films.
Awwhh, You Betcha, Haven't seen a Movie Yet, that I didn't like! Sadly, no more. John Wayne was an Icon, & Legend! 😟, RIP-JW! Thank's for the Movie 1nc. Again! GBU.,SM.,NZ., ✌❤😁🙏🤗👍👏
Look out for the lavender tones in Technicolor: Susan Hayward's dress arriving at party in Charleston. No film medium has ever reproduced lavender like Technicolor: a hallmark. I almost didn't recognize Ray Milland all prissy! And what a great villain, Massey. Good music, too. I am amazed I never heard of this film.
Thank you so much for the films I'm going to cancecell my other subs on TV which I can't really afford but don't go out the money I save I will put to getting a lap top so the picture will be bigger watching on small I pad at moment 🏴
The Duke at about 35 years old. Was in a pub having a beer decades ago and there was John Wayne, (was in off his boat the Wild Goose, having a beer). Class act. Like Milburn Stone also, from Gunsmoke. 13 years before that excellent western. Ray Mallard. Some good actors. Scenery was great. Acting was generally way better than anything today. (2024). The Mrs wanted me to say that the women clothing was total classy. (but said putting all that on would be a job and a half). Thanks for the upload. "Thumbs Up" 100%.
One of the most fun things about this film, other than a Strong Female Character who's still feminine, is that it's an interesting piece of actual history long forgotten unless you live in Florida. The Florida coast is an absolute ships' graveyard.

Gone With the Wind on the high seas? DeMille's distinctive Hallmark Card epic style, where every shot wants to be an 11" x 14" lobby card.
This is such a wonderful movie.

I guess I must have missed this one all these years.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful movie 🎬
Actually quite an amazing film. Decades ahead of 20,000 Leagues. DeMille.
A great movie but me back in my early days into the 50s
Great movie. Thrilling til the end

A great adventure film, with Ray Milland ❤ and John Wayne, two of my favorites
Weird seeing Ray Milland with hair! Just remember him from Columbo episode; Greenhouse Jungle, and shows like that. Good Movie!
Ray Millard had a nice head of hair when he was a younger actor.
Yeah he must have been pissed when he started losing it! Good transitionfrom Leading Man to Stately Old Guy!
@@GlenSeymourThat's too much Hair for Mr M😮😮😅
It is a sad story. I felt so bad for the desperate Jack doing such a crazy thing, and poor Drusilla. It was awful.
Thanks
Ray Milland sounds soo much like Cary Grant.
When Hedda Hopper was an actress
John was a great actor ❤
Facially, yes, but he delivers all of his lines the same way.

Absolutely!
1942? Shouldnt John Wayne be in the war?
He never served in the armed forces.
He wanted to but had an old football injury that prevented it. The biggest regret of John Wayne’s life was not being able to serve.
wait!? they can make that UNIVERSAL animation in 1942?
Yes, animations have existed for a long time

Looks like Paulette Goddard got her Southern Belle part. She lost out on Scarlett O’Hara. But she plays her here. 😊

Really messed up that we don’t have a synopsis about this movie😡
Great movie, got a kick out of seeing Milburn Stone in it ( Doc Adam's from Gun Smoke)!
