  • George Roberts really gets around some B naturals in this recording. It is interesting that Nelson Riddle arranges the bass trombone in the high register in octaves with the trumpet. It is quite a big range for this one!

    For those that were not aware, George Roberts always played a single F attachment bass trombone (a Conn 70-H at this time I think). A B natural (below the bass staff) is not available on this instrument without depressing the F valve, pushing the slide out as far as it can go and then lipping it down to get an in-tune note. (at least, that's what he said he did).
