Picture this...I am in the 6th grade and its 2001. My parents decided to buy cable tv for the first time. Once the cable technician is done installing the cable setup, I quickly turn to MTV to see what all the rave is about with this 'Music Television' channel and this is the first video that I see come on. This song, more specifically the video, will always hold a warm spot in my childhood memory bank!

+Cellar Door I'm pretty sure most people do this, the "90's great music" kind of leaks into the very early 2000's, but once it hit like 03-04+ it starts getting pretty meh quickly. I feel like piracy might have had a little to do with it, along with the fact that we lost many great artists during the 90's (kurt cobain, brad nowell, selena, freddy mercury, etc.). I dunno, most music today just seems really uninspired, even artists who were good before tend to put out stuff that's on par with current crap.. but at least its a bit acceptable since it's an artist you recognize.. the evolution of music has been strange for the last ~10 years.
I wouldn't mind a good grunge album again or something, but apparently that's just not with the times anymore according to artists.. they've all moved to pop and stuff. At the same time I realize there are a finite number of chords and orders in which you can play them so it's tough to keep coming out with the same quality stuff.
