Not many enthusiastically put Spain up there as pre tournament favourites. The way this Spain side is setup provides multiple threats for an opponent to think about. If it's not the left flank with Williams, it's the right side with Yamal. Not to mention both Cucurella and Carvajal comfortable putting in crosses like wingbacks as well. If it's not the wide areas, the first goal against Croatia demonstrated the threat of through passes from any one of Rodri, Ruiz and Pedri to the striker. All three can score from long shots as well. It's like having a computer with multiple problem solving solutions.
no wonder, people make opinions outside Real Madrid and Barça without really any knowledge, just as they make opinion on the other two based on what they hear rather than what they observe
Spain has been super impressive, what is crazy is that I don’t feel like their opposition played poorly, they just aren’t good enough as a team to compete with Spain. Obviously you never know what’ll happen but from the first two games they look amazing
We played very, very poorly. It's ok to suffer against Spain but Spalletti just failed to see what was predictable, leaving Di Marco and Di Lorenzo helpless against two rapid wingers was idiotic. They're just not quick enough and he should have protected them with a three men defence, giving them freedom to attack the sides and offer the midfield some choice other than trying to link up vertically in the middle, wich they failed to do because of easy pressing. Moreover, a lot of our players just are better suited to a back three defence since they play like that in clubs. I think Spain looked better because of us, they're already so good and we didn't have any plan to counter them.
Spains tactics against croatia were also spot on ..nullified the midfield and a high press caught Croatia off guard, cracked us, the second half Croatia had more posseti n and shors, but too lateSpainnadapted again and defended brilliant... they will go far in this tournament, we had the misfortune of drawing the current, .... and future.... euro champs in our group.... 😊😊😊
As an italian i needed to shower after that game and I'm still scared to leave the house. It's much better now after the Croatia game but i'm still traumatized
Tbh I really wanted to see how Spain would play when they had the ball compared to the Croatia game where Croatia had the ball, and yes they blew me away, they played with purpose and moved the ball quickly to their wingers to cause havoc which they did. They are flexible in the middle, monsters on the flanks and good at the back coz they dealt well with Italy's counter. I see them having a great tournament if they keep playing like this.
But am scared in the next game they won't be having rodri, I don't know how they will handle that coz he got a yellow card, the good thing is that they have already went to next level so it won't be a too much needed game
As I see in the thumbnail, The triangle is an element of the now-obsolete Tiki-taka, positioning and spacing are also still there. But the only element of Tiki-taka that we no longer see is the short and quick passing which is the most notable element of it. Spain now adapts the long ball while maintaining the spacing and positioning elements of the Tiki taka
I agree but the tiki taka style was funnier at the beginning when the opponents did not respect so much that Spanish team ( 2008-2009) and there was plenty of space to attack and combine; later most teams were super defensive against tiki taka and the fun ended (Also the coach Del Bosque eventually practiced a kind of a " tiki taka catenaccio" more defensive than offensive )
What I find interesting about this Spain is how relatively few players from Barcelona and Real are in the Squad compared to the Golden Era And that there are so many players from the Basque clubs
The side may be dominated by Barca players soon; they are trying to sign Nico Williams, two of Barca's young players are injured, and Pau Cubarsi looks like he'll be ready to challenge for a starting spot. That's potentially six out of ten outfield players by 2026.
@abhijiththampi Spain won the first Eurocup with 3 Barcelona players only (David Villa Stiller was a Valencia player) Casillas, Capdevilla, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, Silva, Cazorla, Juan Mata etc You have no idea what are you speaking about.
Spalletti made lots (and I mean lots) of wrong decisions: 1) Playing with 4-men defence line: (i) Di Lorenzo had a terrible season and his strenghts are more offensive than defensive; (ii) Darmian, Bastoni and Buongiorno are used to play in 3-men lines, so it takes less time to adjust the mechanisms; (iii) Di Marco playing as full back instead of wing back takes a lot out of his game and exposes his defensive frailities 2) Midfield selection was also terrible: (i) Pellegrini has no work rate, so Rodri was almost always free to dictate play; (ii) Frattesi is a box to box, not a playmaker. Thus, his skills were not required for this game, which required composure on the ball to defuse spanish excellent pressing off the ball; (iii) Cristante's best season was at Atalanta, playing as a box to box midfielder. I never understood why he is often deployed deep back, even as a centre back. Barella is a great all around midfielder but cant assume all the build up; he needs Jorginho and Verratti. Italy need a Gattuso to release the more technical midfielders and shield the defence, or yet another Verratti who can complete a technical line along with Jorginho and Barella. It was both a perfect game from Spain and a terrible game from Italy. A perfect storm
Spain was so good, they could have demolished Italy at least 4 or 5-0, Germany and Spain has been the most impressive sides in my opinion, heavy favourites to win this Euros by now.
@@TheRealPingu that don't tell all the story, they had very good goalscoring opportunities and played much better, their goal even came from a 0 xg so I believe they could score more.

Here's a manager who actually knows a thing or two about tactics, and how to play to his players' strengths! *Cough* England *cough* . Ahem, excuse me.
Instead of trying to play like Spain, Italy should've been more direct, playing runs in behind, trying to take more shots from outside the box and play more crosses into the box. To cause aerial threats. Which would've caused damage. Chiesa has the pace and Scamacca has the height. Pellegrini, Cristante, Jorginho have the ablity to shoot from far. Instead of thinking about being patient with the ball. Italy should have been more direct and opportunistic like classic italian teams.

They could barely get 3 passes in a row right, multiple times the second pass was garbage. The first touch was in most occasions awful, a lot worst than it usually is, etc. I know Spain has the better side but hopefully this is not the Italy we'll see against Croacia or they will be out. I hope they make it to the knockout stages where Italy usually performs better than expected...and again, loved this Spain!

For a relatively good coach, Spalletti got completely outclassed. Italy definitely doesn’t have the same caliber of players as this Spain side, but they shot themselves in the foot by trying to play their game instead of planning to counter Spain’s tactical setup. A three man backline would’ve been a better setup with a false 9 in Chiesa to try to compete and close spaces in the midfield would’ve been a better setup (if Italy had the technical know how to play like that, of course). Leave Scamacca out, Play Bastoni, Calafiori and Darmian (or Mancini but I think Damian’s experience and intelligence would be an asset) as a back three. Then bellanova and Dimarco on the wings, and a diamond in the middle of Cristante and Barella playing box to box and supporting the width if the wingbacks get wide, Jorginho sitting back in front of the defenders cutting passing lanes, and throw in Pellegrini at the top with Chiesa having room to roam. Definitely not the best offensive setup, but will 100% be able to thrive on the counters and have enough juice defensively to shut down Spain.
