Well, much of it struck me pretty soggy and full of bothersome little errors -- as though she ought to have practiced more diligently. Some of her choices of tempo seemed absurd particularly in Chiarina and Estrella. While her tone is good and very solid, most of the performance seems concentrated too much on the forte-mezzo forte level. There's little sense of warmth or intimacy in the more lyrical thoughtful aspects. She must have practiced very hard on Paganini, because it came off very well, despite muddiness in the left hand towards the end. Pause came off splendidly as did most of the finale, although she lit into the Marche at too brisk a tempo for my tastes. Certainly not a bad performance, but not particularly good either. I question her taste frankly, Overall this is a very pedestrian interpretation lacking in charm, color, elegance and the sense of magic only a pianist of the caliber of Novaes, Magaloff or Rubinstein could produce. Young Tiffany Poon's recent live performance at Juilliard is far superior to this.
+Hyramess Hiramess I don't mind the little errors, for this is a live performance. My memory is not as good as yours: I cannot recall which performance - live or recorded, I might prefer. Certainly Ms Leonskaja's interpretation differs from how I remember others.
