To make clear to all, Sufism was NOT born in India. It arrived in India with Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti of Ajmer and has since stayed as a core member of the Indian Civilization. Sufism has had a massive and positive impact on North Indian culture. It enriched the already glorious Indian culture.
A profound impact of Sufism on North Indian heritage can be seen in North India's Hindustani Classical Music, one of India's two major Classical Music styles- other being South India's Carnatic. In fact, the major component of Hindustani Music that caused it to deviate from Carnatic Music is Sufi influence! Such has been Sufi influence on Hindustani music, that an altogether new category of devotional songs called Qawwali was born here! Thus, while Sufism does not trace its origins to India, its essential component Qawwali was indeed born here!!!
With the advent of Wahabism, Sufism was declared un-Islamic and Sufism has since been virtually erased from the Gulf and most Muslim world. But, the Indian Subcontinent still has a vibrant Sufi heritage and Sufism is here to stay as the proud family member of our ancient Indian Civilization, forever!

I'm not an expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt and do your own reading.
It's partly to do with the domination of Salafi doctrines in Saudi Arabia. Salafism is quite purist in its ideas of what Islam is and isn't and seeks to return to the simplicity of the original faith. Many who follow this path are of course quite peaceful people, but others are militantly intolerant towards other Muslims who do not believe and practice as they do, hence the attacks, the violence and killings.
Islam has always been very diverse in its practices and beliefs. Unlike Catholicism it was never ruled by a centralised hierarchy that determined what was orthodox. Consequently Islam adapted itself to many regions and evolved in many ways, in places taking elements of other religions.
In my opinion this wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Many Muslims were big hearted and open minded, perhaps being moved more by love of Allah, rather than fear, and sought a closer relationship to Allah by joy, ecstasy, poetry, music, love and dance, as well as the more traditional practices of fasting, reading the Qur'an and hadiths, and namaz.
I believe they were right to do so.
May Allah bless them, they manifested some of the most beautiful and moving expressions of the human spirit for love of the divine.
I forgot to add that Saudi influence, many say Saudi money, has made Salafism much more important globally than what it was.

Sufism isn't attached to any country period those who believe that are just attached to there own pride and what a contradiction being prideful and then claiming to be a Sufi those two don't add up at all so its obvious you're not a true Sufi so learn the truth about Sufism and maybe you wouldn't be so prideful anymore I don't know why you Indians and Pakistanis are always trying to be better than one another its sad to see claiming Sufism is attached to a certain country that's such a lie I cant take those who believe that seriously get over your egos and embrace the truth salam.
