What do you use after you paint them to make them shiny

I use 2 or 3 coats of water based varnish. It’s called Varathane Triple Thick in glossy.

I’m no scientist but something about using acrylic paint and clear glue makes a crackle. The crackles seem bigger when I begin with a glossy paper.
