- In 2001 three railfans set out to chase the Florida S-Line from Tampa to Jax, then back down the Florida A-Line from Jax to Tampa.
Here are some highlights.

23 years later and ur voice and production hasn’t changed much. I like it. Keep up your excellent work Danny
There was no need for heritage units in 2001!
Great package, Danny. I really favored the shot of the Palatka coal train with three AC6000s. Great memories I'm sure you'll cherish for a lifetime. Nothing else quite like railfanning with good friends.
Oh yes!
The very first railfan video I bought in 1994 (or thereabouts) was "Cajon Pass" from TRAINS video.
Have wanted to to go out there ever since. Maybe this year or next. Who knows?
That was the Auto Train. Amtrak's Sanford,FL to Virginia passenger train that lets you take your automobile with you. Passenger coaches, sleepers and diner up front, auto rack cars on the end.
I know these videos are a little dated, but it's neat to see all these different paint schemes now that I work for CSX out of Selkirk yard in New York. Thanks for the videos.
The good old days...
The p42 on the sunset limited was beautiful
Yeah, that was a nice paint job. I wish Amtrak would have kept it.
Wow 3 AC6000CWs and they were struggling, how big was that coal train?
Wish all these trains still ran the A-Line.
Danny, awesome video. the good ole days for sure!!
Correction on the auto train ID Dan: 53 is the number for the southbound autotrain. 52 is the number for the northbound train.
Danny:
YOU ROCK!!!!! All of your videos are professional and entertaining. Everytime I hear you on Fox13 it makes me check youtube. I have bought your videos on the Bone Valley and The Juice Train. I live in Brandon, Florida and railfan ALL the time, it is only of matter of time before i see you at a location. Can't wait for your next post. Anytime you want someone to railfan with I have a full tank of gas and a nice car waiting.
Gad!!! You're absolutely right! I just went back and watched it again and I definiely said "53" in error. Should have been 52. Will post a revision tonight.
Thanks for the catch.

Very nice! I liked the salute from the Amtrak Auto Train. Also that Chessie Unit looked cool.
3 AC6000CWs on a coal train---thats a rarity even by today's standards. Plus, the 2nd unit is the infamous 666
WOW!!!!! Amazing catches, especially with the Chessie GP40 and those Conrail units!
Hey Danny!; All your videos. areexcelent. I got lucky and saw. 2
Conrail units in the same clip
That Chessie GP40 6602 was a real treat. Didn't think there were any of those that late in 2001. Very neat. I wish Conrail were still around. Conrail was the road I grew up with and I always had a good relationship with them. They were great. Sad that the merger of equals was ripped to pieces by NS and then Conrail ceased to exist.
In Philadelphia, Detroit and South New Jersey, Conrail still operates as CSAO, or Conrail Shared Assets Operations.
Nice shave and a haircut at 4:49.
It's also odd to see 92 at Palatka during daytime hours, he's normally into Orlando by 7-8pm. I hope the rumors about the Sunset returning end up being true.
@CSXKid5016
You're right. 53 is indeed the southbound. I made that error in the script but never went back and changed it.
DH
Danny that was a lot of really cool footage. There were so many trains. I really enjoyed it. 👍👍👍❤️
When you said "A Little Too Much" I was saying to myself: Ya think?
I like old school footage when I can see it.
I wish they hadn't made the intermodal yard in winter haven but kept the one in taft.
I didnt know that U-boats were still in service back then!
nice job danny! nice shave & a haircut from Amntrak @ 4:48
4:49 822 before it was a heritage unit
lol I didn’t exist when this was filmed.
Me neither
Great video as always. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Nice Job Danny, Loved it!
The Palmetto, which you flimed in this video, had the Phase III paint scheme with it and also a new "Shamu unit". That is a real wierd!
darn nostalgia
Man The Amtrak P42s look so good in phase 4 livery
Love the Vintage power!
The Sunset Limited got truncated to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and never was reinstated all the way back to Orlando.theres been discussion of reinstating it back to its full route to Orlando but for now the only Amtrak train to have Superliner cars in Florida is Amtrak 52/53 AutoTrain
nice U-boat/SD-40 combo, with a great S3L
Nice footage!!! What were those cars on the end of the Amtrak 'R' train? Carrying cars? 5*****
@80mphtracks
Not really. Why?
Have you ever thought about visiting Cajon Pass, Danny?
Curious dan do you know how much traffic CSX runs between Sanford & Jacksonville because i've been confused at CSX train ID outside of Ohio
Awesome job as usual, keep'em coming!
Awesome video
No problem Dan. Im actually going to be on the Auto train come august.
Old School footage???? What does THAT mean?
Are you saying I'm OLD?????
In Polk County, between Winston and Auburndale, the A-Line is probably busier. but outside of that territory, the S-Line is definitely hotter.
DH
Awesome! Hopefully it all works out.
What’s up with this locomotive paint job
Good video Danny Alex out
If your out and about try comeing up to eustis on the fla. Central line north there is a very long set of tttx rail box box cars parked there they are from the fair grounds up to almost the juice plant and if you get hungry stop in at the mason jar restaurant
LOL That's my station for you. I wish they would run down the FEC and stop at St. Augustine where I live instead. It's much better lol. They either need to connect the FEC with CSX or run two different services down the lines.
Another favorite!A
No, not all. AT carries coaches, too.
Are you sure that the train at 0:55 was not Amtrak's long distance version of the "Silver Palm"
BuckeyeNationRailroader yea because the long distance version had silver liner equipment
PEE - CAN, something you put next to the bed at night so you don't have to go out in the cold to the outhouse in the Winter.
PEE- KHAN. A small, enjoyable nut grown mostly in California used in cooking, snacking, and ice cream and more. Don't mix them up!
awesome video great job
1:38, how does a train "rest"? did it also "sleep", "read", and "have fun"?
A time before all those train car were vandalized or rusted
That was one cool video
Never seen a 3-AC6000CW lashup before!
Do you know what P42 was leading 89?
3:31 what's LMS? I know it's a British Railroad, but what is LMS in this scenario?
It was a locomotive leasing company
Amtrak sunset limited was so long then! Its 5 cars now
Oh that's really cool! Do they still run that?
What I meant was that the autoracks from the video are gone. They were replaced in 2005. The P40's no longer run the Auto Train.
No he's not, what he means is the power of the train that is rarely seen today.
Coleman Cemetery Road? With a rail line near it? The engineers should be very careful using the whistles or they can awaken the dead; giggle!😱
The Auto Train looks very different than it was back then. The Auto Racks, the P40's are all gone from this train sadly.
Wow, 19 years ago. Look at all those weird things you don't see any more. I wonder what will look equally weird in recent videos 19 years from now. "Wow, remember when CSX painted their engines blue?" "Wow, remember when there were only two rails?"
Shave and a Haircut from the Autotrain!
Nice catch of the LMS unit back from england
LMS=LMSX=Locomotive Management Services, a leasing company that was a subsidiary of Conrail.
I think what he ment was footage shot in the 60s-80s.
loce the UP power at the beginning, just a change of pace.
Yes. Leaves Sanford every day around 4 O'clock.
I thought 53 was the Southbound?
Wow that's all I can say wow
Tampa.
C30-7!!!!
Great Chessie! haha that guy!
Cool!
i love it
6:08 CSX 666!!
Wow would you say that was unlucky or lucky or both.
Both
But now Csx 666 was a thing in the past
hey danny its me andrew what your e-mail i want to know if i can go RAILFANNING WITH YOU SOON is that alright
not entirely true. the train still runs with the autorack cars. check out danny's video Railfanning Sanford, FL & Mt. Dora Steam if you want proof that what I said is true.
That loaded coal train had 3 AC6000CWs
sure is nice of them to kick u off the train just anywhere
Well they don't just kick you off. This guy was so drunk, he'd peed all over himself and the person next to him.
LOL!
Too bad the scene at 1:17 is now a thing of the past :/
!!!!!!
