Everybody is talking about the guitar. Fair enough, it's great, but to me the bassline on the verses is where it's at. Anthony is also killing it on the verses

OMG. I think Stadium Arcadium just added another planet. This is such an amazing record. I hated to see Josh go, but damn John brings this band to another level. This is an Instant RHCP classic.
To me this song is way way better and far more interesting than the 3 singles. Johns guitarwork here is so so sexy and highly addictive, especially during the chorus.
Chad Smith lays a heavy groove down on this track. And holy hell that guitar solo was validation the magical '62 Stratocaster is back in the hands of one John Frusciante.
The most solid song in the album by far. Crazy groove, sick&catchy chorus, beautiful instrumental work, a great solo and not a single note out of place. It's one of those few songs where I can think in a way it could sound better. My god what an album.

This is an absolute masterpiece. My instantly favorite from an album of wonderful songs. Flea's staccato/muting bass style is as new as phenomenal. Never heard it by him in the past. Nothing to say about John's solo: I'm in awe. Challenges the Empyrean in a more RHCP way. I just can't wait to hear it live. Oh, Anthony's vocals are good as they've never been.
Yeah, I can't believe more people aren't talking about this bass part. It's an entirely new style of playing. I'm a pretty proficient bass player and have been digging into the most obscure players for 15 years to find people who are doing something entirely unique. For it to be Flea, one of my long-time favorites, is just amazing to me. And like you said, it's different for flea. But that's what makes him so great. He can switch it up and still stay on the ball, like he did when he suddenly started playing with a pick. The rest of the song is killer, but man, flea might have invented an entirely new style of playing and to do that today is nearly impossible. But he did it. I just love how twitchy and weird and behind beat it is, while still being in the pocket. It's got that perfect J-Dilla "drunk" feel. Then how strange the note progression is while still being locked in melodically. Only Flea can do the weirdest thing possible while still being entirely grounded in the rhythm melody. The guy is a true powerhouse.
@@NautilusGuitars yeah man, I'm a bass player myself and what shocked me the most about this one is that is almost ENTIRELY played with this technique. Is not a bridge or a musical interlude. Is the bassline that drives the track. Interesting the J Dilla comparison, because I think Flea took a lot of inspiration to write it, at least from a rhythm standpoint, from early hip hop artists. He and John are notorious fans and listeners of people like Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, NWA ecc. J Dilla is even quoted by Anthony in a song from the previous album I can't really point my finger on now (Detroit maybe?). Absolutely brilliant anyways.

Yeah not afraid to admit it. Flea's on point bass playing, Chad's perfect groove, John's expressive guitar and Anthony's delivery... I did get emotional with it. This IS the RHCP I know and love. My favorite song off the whole album. This album and BSSM are equal to me. I've been listening since I was 6️⃣ and I'm 39 now. They have made life tolerable when it seemed like a impossible situation.
This is one of their best albums, top 5 for sure, and the reason being that while it doesn't have any hit, it works as a whole, there really aren't skippable songs and each song benefits from being along the others.
So far this is my fav off of the album, such a great chorus and it starts out with Flea and Anthony really connecting.. Love how Anthony sings the same part that Flea plays.. similar to the way he does with John on many older songs. Not to mention John lays down some great licks at the end.. while Chad holding the groove together like only he can..
Truly great to see a legendary band like RHCP shining in all their glory again, they truly needed their old pal John to bring it back to this level of songwriting, Ahmen!
At first listen I felt this album was a little to laid back to a brilliant masterpiece after about the tenth listen.this entire album is some of the boys best work.
