Thank you for reaching out to us. To answer your question, we have some information below:
Heat increases blood flow and, therefore, may induce edema and exacerbate acute inflammation. Heating biophysical agents (e.g. thermal ultrasound or thermal diathermy) are usually used for subacute to chronic conditions, and can reduce pain and muscle spasm, relax skeletal muscles, and decrease joint stiffness.
Sub-thermal settings for Ultrasound and diathermy are appropriate for acute inflammation/edema to stimulate reduction of inflammation/edema.
Please reach out to us if you have any other questions!

@@acpclinicalwebinarseries Thanks. How to know if the case is acute or subacute and wheter the inflammation is acute or not? Could you explain that by example on knee pain due to osteoarthritis and back pain due to disc herniation? is electrotherapy also contraindicated in edema and acute inflammation?so which modality is best helpful for acute inflammation or edema and how to know wheter we moved to subacute condition?

@@acpclinicalwebinarseries Regarding knee bursitis, which modality do you use to absorb the accumulated synovial fluid in the bursa and how long in average does it last?what if we do not remove that fluid? Thanks
