Tough as nails the GS line was. Still have my 81 750e I got when I was 17. Got into... and OUT of ALOT of trouble on it back then. Ride a Wide Glide now, but fire the GS now and then just to hear the ol' Kerker rumble...

The golden years for street bikes to me.73-82. Of course the new motorcycle & cars are more advanced, faster more efficient. It's just the styles that I prefer. Give me my 1000 kawasaki LTD anyway & I'll want or need nothing else.
Badass machine I had a GS1000 and a GS1150 es 1k wasn’t even close to keeping up with the 1150 but both very mean machines 💰💰😎

Sr sure raised a helluva young man there.
Damn....just damn. In the mid '80s I owned a '72 H1 and a '74 Z1. I paid $500 each. Blew one up the other was stolen. At one point I had an '81 GS 1100e. For a heavy bike it ripped. Low priced great bikes are definitely a thing of the past. Sad for old dudes.

That year I bought the GS1100 instead. It was faster and cheaper. 🤷♂️😎👍🏻
But this is worth alot more now
1st thing I'd do is replace those original shocks. The damping must be done by now. Speed wobble city over 100mph. Beautiful sound! Surprised it's still got the original intake system. Most got pods and were a nightmare to jet.

Is the seat correct?….seems like it’s missing some foam or something with the way the vinyl folds and droops.
Appears they took some padding out.
New seat cover needs adjustment

Actually Wes & Yoshimura didn’t start racing this blue & white model until 1981 , after it went out of production .. so the bike never came out as a Wes Cooley replica .. he mostly raced the red GS1000 in 79 & 80 , but hey why ruin a good story.

IMHO it’s right up there with CBXs for cool(ey ;^) factor with WAY more competition history.
I was there with my crew a summer later. Sat right near the corkscrew and consumed a lot of Budweiser.
