I honestly really like this adaptation. I 100% agree that on a first viewing the middle portion feels boring due to all the *seemingly* random subplots.
But knowing how they all tie together, especially on a rewatch, makes this one of the better short story adaptations in my opinion.

Whoa this is tripping me out! I never made the connection since I watched Poirot before I got into Doctor Who, but it's cool to know that Suchet and Capaldi reunited in series 10's Knock Knock

Capaldi is favorite doctor! Knock Knock was quite good but not an episode I have revisited recently. I'll have to change that :)

I love this story too. This and the soap manufacturer are the two times Poirot prevents a murder and no one is killed.

Miles I see the connection you're making to AC with the type writer sound effect, but I admit I do often miss your original opening with the dramatic synthetic chimes.
I very much enjoyed Wasp's Nest for how different it is from your usual Poirot story; an effort to stop a murder from happening rather than react to one that's already occurred. I think it's pretty difficult to adapt these shorter stories into something approaching fearu length, but they do their best. Poirot's reading of the tea leaves being a ruse to explain him noticing of the clown makeup on the tea cup rim as opposed to Molly's lighter shade of lipstick was a brilliant detail. It's the kind of thing you'd expect AC to come up with herself.
I'd probably rate Wasp's Next a bit higher than you did, but I thought your points were fair as usual. Another great video Miles.

Thank you! And you're right, the lipstick detail was a brilliant addition.

It's great to have a video on the short stories as due to the varied quality of the adaptations, whether that be due to how it was translated to screen or what the writer added to fill time, it means that I don't really care to watch them, other than The Chocolate Box.
Although as a Doctor Who fan, for me when watching Wasps' Nest, it was fun to see Capaldi and Suchet acting against each other decades before Knock Knock

The Chocolate Box is one of my favorite adaptations. It adds a lot of romantic drama between Virginie and Poirot that wasn't in the short story AT ALL, and adds the plot where Japp goes to Belgium to receive an award (which didn't happen in the short story). Despite the liberties taken with the story, I love it anyway! I'm okay with the made-up Virginie love story, the lapel pin that Poirot wears, Virginie naming her son after Hercule, and Poirot being sweetly teary eyed when he sees Virginie again. I actually approve, despite the fact those things were added by the adaptation writers.
