Good practice batting with No.11 for Trinidad, 1984, when Border got 98* and 100* (off 269 balls, with just 3 boundaries), saving the Test with Alderman, putting on 61* for last wicket (young Lara in the crowd, admiring Border). Also the year before, 1981, Alderman batted with Hughes, at MCG, to help Hughes get 100* v WI). Last wicket partnerships sometimes had players from same State (eg, Border-Thompson, Hughes-Aldermen). This I call the "Romantic Era" of cricket.
