    this is why Emulation is sometimes a great way to play these old games
    When your other "Legal" option is to spend almost as much as a new console it sometimes is easier and cheaper to just Emulate it

    im only mid 20s, but started collecting as a young kid in the 2010s, its genuinely so disappointing how expensive games have gotten. my USA crystal cost me 60$ in a MALL ten years ago, i know i was probably paying a bit much for it back then, compared to other options. i remember when emerald could easily be had for under 100 on ebay.
    hell, even the side games have been inflating. conquest and explorers of sky are absolutely crazy right now, while super mystery dungeon is only 30ish with the box, and sold just 2/3 what EoS did..... im hoping they deflate like the NES has, considering there are millions of copies of these games....

    As someone from outside USA who has been slowly and painstakingly collecting the USA version of the Pokemon games, let me tell you that it's only going to get worse, and the bubble is not going to pop.
    Prices will keep going up because every year there is less and less of these games (and of anything retro) just due to electronic failures, people botching the carts when trying to swap the battery, or pcbs rusting or getting thrown into the trash, and so on.
    Prices post-covid collapsed, and now they're more expensive than what they were back then. But that's why emulation is so great, I play my games on a chinese handheld, I don't dare do a full playthru of Crystal or Emerald on real hardware with the prices they cost right now.
    If you want nostalgia then emulation is the way to go, either on a CFW 3ds or any chinese handheld that can emulate gb-gbc-gba, heck if you want the real hardware experience you can always buy a flashcart and still play on your gba, or ds or whatever.
    My advice is if you really want any of the physical carts, or gamecube games like Colosseum or Gale of Darkness better buy what you want asap, because no matter what year you're reading this, collecting stuff is expensive, and pokemon even more so.
    Pokemon TCG Pocket has put again the whole franchise in the eyes of casual society like it happened with Pokemon GO, and everyone wants to get in; 2025 about to be a rough year, and 2026 even more so with the 30th anniversary. Better hurry and get what you can now.

  • @thelbtlover
    @thelbtlover Місяць тому +3

    It's called supply and demand. I'm sorry you want things you can't afford, but that's not anyone else's problem. The prices are set by what people are willing to pay. If you're unable (or unwilling) to pay that price, that doesn't mean the price is unreasonable it means it's unreasonable TO YOU. They're not making those Pokemon games anymore, so they're rare. That combined with the fact that a lot of people want them makes the price high. It's not greed that makes the price high, but market forces. The only thing immoral is market manipulation, for example, a company intentionally destroying supply that already exists in order to keep prices high, or scalpers buying up all the inventory in order to create artificial scarcity so they can resell at ridiculous prices.

      @Cyb3rSushi  Місяць тому +3

      @@thelbtlover first of all thank you for commenting, I said in the video I know why it’s like that because of supply and demand but am also going to stand on business because it is greed when it comes to those eBay resellers your not going to tell me a half scratched up Pokémon colosseum game is worth $200 bucks or just the games box is worth $100, Some of those resellers I can tell don’t care about Pokémon and just care about lining there pockets, At the end of the day I would rather sell my childhood game go somebody who I know was going to play it and not sell it on mercari or eBay for 200-300 bucks even tho they got it from me for 10 bucks I’ve seen to much of it, ALSO the price is unreasonable TO ME that’s why I found another way to play it I’ll say this in the later half of what you said your right I don’t like that company’s do that. You can't convince me that Pokemon games are "rare". They sold millions of copies when they were released and you can find hundreds of listings for copies at any given point. Just because they're valuable doesn't make them rare

    • @Taig
      @Taig Місяць тому +2

      @@RootBeerBilly They are very rare to find complete in box (box+manual+cart+paperwork) and in good condition, and that scarcity spills over to the loose carts.
      Kids threw away the cardboard box 99% of the times the second they got home, with just the manual surviving in many cases. People want the complete version because the boxes are beautiful, and when they can't afford (or don't want to pay) the high prices, the alternative is to go for just a loose cart which are much more readily available alongside the manuals.
      Even if millions of copies sold, there are less and less copies in the market every year, and thus less and less sales. Collectors buy but they don't sell, and supply dwindles. This leads to increased prices, and with places like aliexpress and etsy selling straight up bootleg carts, it gets harder and harder to find a legit copy, and people don't mind overpaying for it.
      They are both valuable and rare, and people are constantly getting into the franchise. Even in japanese marketplace websites where a few years ago you could find carts of gen 1,2,3 by the hundreds, prices have basically triplicated. A complete Japanese Pokemon Emerald copy (game+box+instructions+wireless adaptor) can easily go for 150 bucks nowadays, and carts that used to cost 5-10 bucks now cost 15-25, this is also due to foreigners buying the supply (some for reselling, some for collecting) because they used to be much more affordable (a few years back I bought my complete JP Crystal copy for about 35 bucks, now they go for double that if you are lucky).
      I'm sorry you feel this way, but old pokemon games will never be cheap or affordable ever again, and it sucks, but things work this way with most old collectible items of known media franchises. All I can say to anyone who is still hesitating to buy, buy before it goes even higher.

    • @RootBeerBilly
      @RootBeerBilly Місяць тому +2

      @@Taig Any game that's complete in box from that era is going to be rare because the boxes are cardboard, a lot of us just threw them away as kids. Most people like me just want to play the games though and don't care if it's just a loose cart

  • @samwui94
    @samwui94 Місяць тому +1

    It's just supply and demand. Those games are now considered retro and the people that want it or grew up with it, or couldn't afford it when they were younger now want it, and those that want it all now have a considerable chunk of change to spend on it so the prices naturally go up. It's just supply and demand, it's not evil. That's just how the market works esp since those items are no longer being produced by the supplier
