Gjoob is based on walrus; strombonin is a centauric armor clade ronin; yawstrich is based on ostrich; anglow is based on the barreleye fish, anglerfish, and sea spider; hyehehe is a hyena jester; cherubble is based on a nudibranch and the "birds" are critters called blubberflies which are based on seahorses; catalyzt is based on the cheshire cat; bleatnik is based on a goat; cranchee is based on a squid with a hipster hairstyle; sporerow is based on a sparrow with a somewhat frog-like body; pinghound is based on an anglerfish and a pug or as the name suggests, a hound; wheezel's name is based on weasel which i think does not look like at all, it is just an imaginary monster (though i have to say you referring to wheezel as a joke box is quite clever because its sounds like a portmanteau of joke and jukebox); knurv is a tiny mythical creature; buzzinga is based on several arthropods such as bee, spider, and crab; lastly shlep is based on a fly.
