I watched your vids to fall asleep like a decade ago, and I was definitely still playing mtg back then. Glad to see MTG will stand the tests of time with lots of us
I lately started to look at commander deck building differently. At one point when the card pool was smaller synergy and theme was key to make a cohesive deck. Now as we’ve seen so many cards in the history of magic I look more towards “does each card create threat and contribute to victory regardless of my board state or does it just help other parts of the deck perform better if they are theoretically online” focusing on ensuring each card no matter what it is actually pushes forward the win has dramatically increased my win rates.
Hey! That's my commander! No surprise our mono green commanders are the same. Ezuri is the perfect elf commander because he's your win condition! I have a few others in there just case, but it's great. I built Talrand too, but I disassembled it and made Vhal+Clan Crafter. Anyways, it's obvious why I love this channel because it's like I'm watching myself in action, lol. Keep up the great work my hyena brother!
My Grand Warlord Radha deck turns Flameblast Dragon into her own personal flamethrower, and she turns X-burn spells into napalm. Ezuri's in there too, and the deck runs pretty damn smooth, especially with Skaargan Goliath and Wrecking Ogre bloodrush effects. It's very similar to an old kitchen table 60-card deck I made before 2014 or so with mana elves and big dragons. I call the EDH tribute to the aforementioned kitchen deck "Elf Fireball." Ezuri is also in the 99 of my Varis (Silverymoon Ranger) dungeons (and elves), but it definitely doesn't make as much mana as an elfball strategy. The elves are there to offer their support for some nice dungeon-delving fun times. Triumph of the Hordes is pretty nice as well. I have a Viconia (Drow Apostate)//Raised by Giants Golgari elves brew coming along, but I don't have Ezuri in it yet. Lathril and Kagha are in the 98 though. Also, once Vicki's background hits the field, Dragon Throne of Tarkir can give all of my other elves (and non-elves) trample and boost them by +10/+10. The dragon throne works pretty nice for Krenko (Tin Street Kingpin) and Valduk (Keeper of the Flame) as well... and, dipping into Raised by Giants again, Vhal (Candlekeep Researcher), assisted with untapping effects (as anybody would in a deck involving her in the command zone), can use her massive badonkadonk to pump mana into the throne's ability, even possibly going infinite with the right combination of enablers. As for wheels, I've had my Nekusar for ages it seems, but I actually run some interesting commons and uncommons, like Chandra's Pyreling, Walking Atlas, Fists of Flame, Sigil of Sleep, Feast of Sanity, Chandra's Spitfire, and even Tolarian Winds. The pyreling and the spitfire can get super dangerous after just a wheel or two with some kind of non-combat damage enabler on the field. A few of the actually newer additions? Orcish Bowmasters, Bloodletter of Aclazotz, and a nice reprint of Bloodchief Ascension. The bloodletter doubles life loss for my opponents during my turn, which really kicks my damage enablers into high gear. If I had extra copies, the bloodletter and Bloodchief Ascension could also go into the 98 of my ⚫🟢 rad counters EDH with Erinis (Gloom Stalker)//Scion of Halaster at the helm, those, and Contagion Engine. For now, it's just a Fallout radiation deck without blue, and it cranks up the recursion, especially the lands, because Erinis turns Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse into repeatable fetches. Also, it feels quite nice to follow up an Overwhelming Forces (Breaking News reprint, originally from Portal Three Kingdoms) with a Rise of the Dark Realms, especially after all my self mill (and milling of my opponents). Last, but not least, and on a side note, Baron Bertram Graywater is so dang good, especially when I combine Marionette Master with Nimblewright Schematic, Servo Schematic, Ichor Wellspring, Mycosynth Wellspring, and Prized Statue. It's got some vampire and rogue synergy as well.
I don’t play Commander to win. I play to have fun. I usually have most fun when kingmaking and using my interaction to choose who wins. Players start making deals with me and suddenly I feel like I’m the most powerful player even though I have no actual “win-con”.
In regards to to demons I personally prefer Raphael, Fiendish Savior. I never get mana screwed and making not just demons but devils, imps, and tieflings being bigger and having lifelink is very strong. In particular the lifelink since demons fly and so you're able to further increase the life difference between them and you. Plus free devil token generation that replaces those creatures when they die for solid blocking power and damages all opponents when they die?
I haven’t gotten to do it yet but I can’t wait to “cast my entire deck” for a win. Big X spells are a good way to win in combo decks that can make big or infinite mana. Ppl tend to mess with the payoff part of my combos and leave the mana generation in tact so I just cast something like exsanguinate for 40 instead
I am currently building an Azorius artifact deck with Glacian & Rebbec. The Thran Couple. Hopefully I can pull out some wins with Mirrodin Besieged or Mechanized Production. I don't know if it can get there with combat. Have a good day Brother! Happy for you, keep up the work.
Question: Overburden does not state “non token” creature on the card. Is it implied some way? If not, how does this not affect our drakes? Thanks for your help, and thanks for the sweet vids brother.
Overburden {1}{U} Enchantment Whenever a player puts a nontoken creature onto the battlefield, that player returns a land they control to its owner’s hand. That's from Scryfall, which is up to date with the Gatherer. It's an old card, they re-templated it.
I have a chaotic Grixis deck with no synergy and I can win 3 out of 5 games. All it has in creatures, instances and sorceries that destroy, counter or bounce things. It is disliked by others. Bolas
Dude I think your Orvar deck tech was the video that brought me to your channel...glad to see that deck is still in your rotation
In the words of a good friend of mine:
"what's your win condition?"
"win?"
We don't do that here.
